Dark Stranger User ID: 3003754 United States 09/14/2012 12:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You're probably right. Prep for SHTF. I had a thought that maybe they are doing it to increase scarcity of fire wood? Price goes up and people say "fuck it, i'll just pay for electric heat" cuz i mean, at $50 a face-cord, that's like... 400k face-cords or about 13,333.3 chords... That's a lot... Like, enough to last my family about 19,047 years... |

Thats all the proof I need to know that they are prepping for SHTF, lights out type scenario. Holy fajesus! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23134798 Really, thats all it takes? They buy some firewood and it must mean the grid is going to go bye bye. I don't really think 20 million dollars worth is just "some" wood.. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1382145 United States 09/14/2012 01:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Couple thoughts from someone who burns a lot of firewood. 1) If they paid $100/face cord (2' x 4' x 8' row), that would still be 200,000 cords of wood. It takes about 15-20 cord per winter in the coldest climates to heat for a season. Keeping the math simple and saying 20 cord per winter, that is enough wood to heat 10,000 homes or small buildings (barracks?) for one season. 2) I doubt it GREATLY if they are transporting this stuff anywhere. Transporting firewood from region to region is very dangerous because you end up introducing beatles, bugs, and diseases to the new area (like ash bore beatle and dutch elm disease) 3) Maybe they are just buying it from locals to "win hearts and minds" or some nonsense like that. I doubt the afgans sell a lot else the US military wants or needs (besides opium) 4) Or, maybe they relize that when SHTF, they won't be getting much fuel oil to heat with... |

I really dont see them buying that kind of wood for 100 a cord maybe more like 50 or even 75 on the high end. I know people who only use wood to heat and most on the top side would say 3-4 cods per winter and that is in Ohio .. So I cannnot imagine needing 15-20 cords a winter.. Just saying. Last year I was paying $55.00 for a face cord, so $100.00 for a full cord is not a bad price, IMHO. If I had to rely on my woodstove as my only heat source, I might get through 2-3 cords during a cold winter. It didn't even get cold enough to light it last winter - just heat pumps and good insulation was enough. I only burned just over a cord the year before (same kind of temperatures, but that was before I insulated the basement). Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
