This story is interesting as the anti-Japanese protests are clearly being "egged on" by the authorities in China for their own purposes of distraction.

All being orchestrated all over the world like a diabolical symphony being conducted by an insane puupet master. These protests have not peaked yet as the 18th is apparently going to be huge.

All I know is the Chinese people do not spontaneously start protests about Japan. This is orchestrated.

Could the Chinese protesting in large numbers against the Japanese at Japan's Embassy in Bejing (and in other parts of China) be related to not only the islands that are in dispute, but also the fact that Japan is one of the United States' strongest allies (especially economically)?

IMO the islands are an excuse. People are hurting and pissed off everywhere largely due to the increasingly-powerful economic vice grip being applied to their genitals. As in other countries, they can't strike out at the real cause of their discontent, so all this pent-up energy is being channeled toward the usual scapegoats.Factor in long-simmering and unresolved issues that date back to World War II and beyond over Japanese refusal to acknowledge their part in events like the Nanjing Massacre etc. and you have a whirlwind ready to be whipped up and directed at will. As always, we must ask, "Cui Bono?"

With all that said, one also shouldn't underestimate the powerful and volatile effects of national pride and saving "face" in these cultures being added to the mix. Very old energies being stirred up here.
