I grew up on codfish. I did too. There was a little place in Massachusetts called "Robinson's Fish and Chips". Went there every Friday--it was the Best!! Koffee I grew up in Massachusetts too! We used to go cod fishing out of Allen's harbor in Harwichport on the Cape. Nothing like fresh scrod and chips on the cape. :) Oh yeah, New England coast had the best fish. We visited the Cape quite often. Salisbury Park and Hampton Beach were always a summer favorite and clam strip rolls were delicious! Scallops too!! Not only do we consume seafood at an alarming rate, but we also rob other creatures (Bears) of their food source(Salmon). And due to these shortages, some species of Bear are at near extinction. More and More people consuming more and more food, than the Earth can replenish or repopulate. It will not get any better. I suspect the TPTB will hatch some evil plot to push Agenda 21. |

Quoting: APOLLO ILLUMINIST Its not about availiable space, its about resources. Codswallop! It's not about space OR resources. It's about the abject failure of human beings to employ good husbandry and stewardship. The waters around Britain were heaving with cod...until the Cod Wars bit (Iceland unilaterally extending its international waters so that it could plunder more and more fish stocks). It actually came to RN gunboat standoffs. And then we've had every Tommo, Dicko and Enrique floating up from warmer climes pillaging and devastating our cod lots. And wouldn't you know it...? Us Brits played by the rules and self-imposed strict quotas - which sent many a Brit fisherman into bankruptcy. Meanwhile, all our foreign maties were rampaging around the North Sea snagging as much cod as they liked. Yet again, it's human beings' immense and destructive predilection for selfishness and short term gain and fuck everyone else. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 14153199 United States 09/17/2012 12:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just 100 cod left in North Sea Overfishing has left fewer than 100 adult cod in the North Sea, it was reported. A survey of catches at European ports has found that fishermen did not catch a single cod over the age of 13 last year. The findings raise concerns for future stocks of cod, which become more fertile as they age. The fish can live as long as 25 years and grow to 6ft. Researchers warned a lower life expectancy meant a lower birth rate and a faster decline. Callum Roberts, professor of marine biology at York University, told the Sunday Times that intense industrial fishing meant that few fish survived beyond the age of four, when they reach sexual maturity. “This means that there are fewer eggs and larvae to perpetuate future generations,” he said.
