What you really mean, is that people are simply just not interested. They are probably sitting right there watching the news and just glaze over when the clips regarding this come on. Lots of people only tend to be interested in something they think is only affecting them.

Information about methane: I once got a noseful of it
and it really is odorless - from a clean but unused toilet I was trying to unplug.

It felt like inhaling a plastic sheet. All of a sudden my
lungs had no traction, no air, could barely breathe.

I ran out of there so fast I have no memory of it.
At the hospital 15 minutes later my heart rate was over 182.

It stayed up for a while, but I was fine a few hours later.
The staff had never heard of methane from unused toilets, but apparently it does collect in the pipes sometimes.

The treatment was supportive - they had to figure out just what it was, and by then my body was handling it.

No this moron is just too stupid to understand. Like most down there.

I'm sure you know this.. but for those who don't..

The modern toilet is designed to block sewer gases by trapping water in the turn built into the toilet. If there is no water in the toilet.. it doesn't block the sewer gases.

The P trap under the sink does the same.

The state fire marshal determined that sewer gas caused the explosion and said it was sparked most likely when Ralph flipped on a light switch.

The ER staff had a laugh. They never had had a patient attacked by a toilet. Glad to hear someone else knows about it.

My husband does business with a fellow in the Baton Rouge area. So we just called his office an hour ago to see what people down there are thinking, or at least one person.
They say it's on the local news but not affecting them.
They did not seem too concerned.

Not interpreting this, just reporting it. I would be more than a little curious, some kind of cell phone alert maybe?
What are any schools in the area doing in terms of monitoring?

I was directed to a louisiana DNR site for info, and already the interactive map for Assumption and some adjacent counties does not work in a way that will allow the viewer to see most of the options related to gas/oil- including well pits. Injection wells were allowed.

I am not familiar enough with it to see if there is a section for chemical stroage.
