and yes, it is a shipping standard that requires materials to be labeled appropriately and in a proper container to minimize accidents.

It's not a law, but a shipping standard. The LAW that he was charged under was.. and I read it from the article, something the OP didn't.

Harris faces one count of transporting hazardous materials.

That would be a US law.

Shipping standards need to be internationally recognized, its a no-brainer,
sigh sigh sigh at the anti-UN bandwagon.

Or, say it. 12 years ago the united states was NOT referred to as a "HOMELAND", and now you're using it as though it were normal because they're f*cking with our traditional terminology, well it isn't normal.

12 years ago it was NATIONAL SECURITY not HOMELAND SECURITY and it bothers me now just as much as it did when Bush & co dropped this word on every newscaster's tongue to be repeated until our eyes were bloodshot.

Dam I want out of here so so bad.

Why so surprised. The US had a HUGE hand in establishing the UN and now you are crying because they are stepping on your toes.

You are all such hypocritical bastards and such children. Your motto should be "MY WAY OR NO WAY".

As long as the UN was only working in other countries you had no problem.

Well suck it up America, welcome to reality.

What goes around comes around.

Where do people like you come from?

Be honest with me, are you stupid enough to actually believe that the American people willingly brought this upon themselves?

Think again.

Wasn't it a US president who made the UN in the first place? Americans are so paranoid
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25247260

Again, where do you people come from?

WTF does it matter if it was a US president?

US presidents don't care about the public's interests. Only the interests of their own and of their masters.

They are here, they're mixed in with the general population..but when there's an excuse they just put on their brown shirts and report for duty..

People you had to notice this during the gulf oil spill..thousands of unknowns came invading the whole gulf area..ALL the higher ups had their brown suits on.. Still don't have a clue as to who the hell they were.. (well i did) but the general public was in the dark where they stay most of the time.

What? Our laws are not punitive enough?

Since when did UN Laws become our laws?

"The LAPD bomb squad determined that the smoke grenade fell under the United Nations’ explosives shipping classification, meaning it is prohibited on board passenger aircraft."

setting a precedent or grasping at straws?

I'm not sure, but something smells funky about this story to me.

also, he wasn't "shipping" the smoke grenade, he was "transporting" it. semantics, I know, but arguable.
 Quoting: Anonymous Cowherder

i think this is what youare feeling: that law' of not shipping any explosives by plane, hasbeen around forever. I cannot remember when that law didnot exist. What is weird isthat the UN law was used instead of our own American law that has existed forever.

Choosing the UN law over the USA law seems like treason to me. Dealing with another Country, and at the same time outside of our Country, using the UN law mayhave been ok.

And again you don't think. Aren't the US presidents a memeber of the US population. You are the ones who are producing these people.

Put your little thinking cap on!

When Obama loses the presidency in Nov we need to be very watchful of several UN treaties that he is likely to attempt to push forward and have ratified in his lame duck period...which is up to the Senate alone, which will be under Democrat control until early Jan 2013 no matter what happens in this Nov election.

To name a couple the LOST treaty and ATT are extremely damaging to the United States...there are other "Agenda 21" type treaties that could also be pushed through. This would equate to Obama chucking bombs over his ahoulder as he left DC...and if you don't think he's capible of that?...then pinch yourself, cause you're frikkin dreaming...

Article in Forbes here...and if you get the chance to listen to pudge face Dick Morris when he's going off about this subject...then listen...he's been one of the few bell ringers about this...and if he even half right?...then we ARE screwed...

Places like L.A. are so far removed from traditional American law they might as well be considered another country.
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787
