Interesting, very careful wording: (less then 50% from that link) "The rover team's assessment is that the bright object is something from the rover, not Martian material. It appears to be a shred of plastic material, likely benign, but it has not been definitively identified. To proceed cautiously, the team is continuing the investigation for another day before deciding whether to resume processing of the sample in the scoop. Plans include imaging of surroundings with the Mastcam." How far away from the landing site is the rover...isn't it cruising around? Exactly how big is this piece of trash...no reference? |

Quoting: zooky [link to mars.jpl.nasa.gov] Take a good look and tell me what you think. It's got to be a piece off the rover itself. Notice how it's got no Mars dust on it. Must have came off the rover or any other parts that were involved in the rover's landing. IMHO. My immediate response was some sort of wrapping, but from what i had no clue. Good point about the -mars dust, has to be from the rover itself. |

Looks like NASA are not quite sure. |

If anyone has ever tried to remove that protective stuff that manufacturers love to use these days you will know what I am talking about. Sometimes things are assembled with the plastic on them, and then the protective sheet is pulled off, and in some instances there are tight spots where pieces get left. It is, to me, sad how fast people forget the FOUNDATIONS of our fine country! This country was built by an armed population capable of fending for themselves, and will be lost by couches full of potato-sheeple riding their 52" HD-LEDTV's into the orwellian sunset. :( :abomb::abomb::abomb: BRING ON THE DOOM!!! |

We are like flies crawling across the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel: We cannot see what angels and gods lie underneath the threshold of our perceptions. We do not live in reality; we live in our paradigms, our habituated perceptions, our illusions; the illusions we share through culture we call reality, but the true historical reality of our condition is invisible to us.” |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24574162 I thought the same at first, but changed my mind. Look at edges of the tear, it looks stretched (see the ripples along the edge) like a form of plastic. I keep reptiles and can say for a fact that their skin doesn't stretch. |
