We had to do the plastic bag in the toilet when I was a kid going through a hurricane. Geez....

Stupid city folk. Out in the country, every house on our street has it's own self contained septic system. When the shit hits the fan here, we will still be using indoor plumbing. New York can't even handle three days without power.

Do the toilets flush for you without water and power? I have never used a septic system.

You do need water, that's it, just to pour down the toilet.

Perhaps those left don't have vehicles ... they take the subway or bus. We know how that is going for the NY people! Not!

However, using a hallway instead of a plastic bag in your own apartment is just plain courteous of others.

Well, these people may not even have water to use to flush.

Any toilet will flush without power. Of coarse you have to have water, but in the event of not having running water from a municiple source available, all you have to do is pour a gallon in the tank and simple pond or river water that is within easy collection distance would do the job. We have a rain catch on the side of the house that holds 60 gallons.

BTW, keeping adequate drinking water on hand is just basic preparedness. Having a container to collect non-potable water to wash, clean, and flush with is also just a basic thing to have.

I can't believe people did not prepare, could have filled everything they had with water before the storm, bath tubs, anything and everything. Dumb sheeple!!!!

I just poured water directly into the toilet bowl during a power outage and down it goes, you don't need to put it in the tank, works better direct.
