Quoting: CrazyEyesThreadKilla Then, the Tea Party rose, driven by the libertarian wing. Instead of embracing it, you co-opted it, driving away its passionate founding population and replacing it with traditional Republican voters. You still had enough momentum to do well in the mid-terms, so instead of learning what drives the passion of the libertarian wing, you kicked it right in the ass. Then, as the 2012 race began, you noticed a libertarian, Ron Paul wing enflamed with passion. Despite its past mistreatment, those voters loyally followed RP under the (R) banner. Rather than learning and embracing these voters, you sent out your pack of howling pundits to ridicule and misrepresent his policies. You treated the only innovative and original voice in the presidential pack as an annoyance. Then, you had an unhappy populace looking for a reason to get excited, and you gave them warmed-over Reagan-lite served without an ounce of passion. You continued to throw the occasional bone to RP voters, treating them like just another of your dumbass interest groups that will happily sit up for a plate of meager promises. Then, you were dealt the most favorable hand imaginable in 2012- shitty economy, leftist policies, and you still fucked it up. An election that should have been a triumph is a disaster. And the missing ingredient for your party's moment of triumph? All those libertarians you treated like so much dogshit for the last two years. We walked away, and as much as we loathe Obama's policies, as least with the Democratic party, our enemies attack from the front rather than stabbing us in the back. The Republican party of the last three decades is dead. You can continue stumbling on, zombified, as our country drowns under a slow drip of socialism, or you can WAKE THE FUCK UP, and give the libertarians a chance in the driver's seat. PIN!!!! /Agree 110% |

I know what you speak of since we had the exact same thing happen several years ago up here in Canada when the reform/alliance party joined with progressive conservatives to become the new conservative party of Canada. Many of us more 'right' wing types did this with high hopes. Well guess what the media crucified us since they are commies at worst and moderates at best. We had to learn to bury our real views and hang in the background digging for what we could get. Was it worth it? Well we did get back in power and at least the country hasn't gone down the drain. There has been a few small victories for the right, so it hasn't been a complete sell out. When I look back, I don't like the taste in my mouth but I also realize I didn't have to take it up the rear either since we shut out the left. You decide for yourself, but I've been front and centre in politics before and I can tell you that you have to make tough decisions at times and sometimes it is 'bigger than you.' Nuff said on this. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1015009 You deserve the politicians you elect. I will not assist you. I will not give aid nor comfort. My ears are deafened to your cries, and my heart is hardened to your plight. You will not benefit from the work of my hands, nor from the ingenuity of my mind. I can not allow my work to benefit you any longer, since in doing so I forge for you the chains which you will shackle me with. I voted the lesser of 2 evils in '08 and I swore I'd never do that again. To thine own self be true. Good luck in the coming years. You're going to need it. |

Quoting: Factual Error Well that would have meant backing off his implicit support for bombing the hell out of Iran. Which would have implicitly indicated that the U.S. would not start WWIII just to appease Israeli hawks. And certain money interests (see Adelson, Sheldon) could never, ever let that happen. |

Just not possible for someone who's 'looking to win'. |

I'm sick, absolutely horrifically nauseated to the core of my being right now at the thought of 4 more YEARS of Obama. I was really ready to jump on the hate bandwagon in this thread. But everything you Libertarians that voted your conscience said? I agree 100%. So instead I'll say thank you. You had the balls to stand for your convictions in a world where too many are covering theirs and ducking and hiding, hoping to hang on to what little they have. I admire you. God help us all. |

THE MAINSTREAM REPUBLICAN PARTY DOES NOT REPRESENT OUR VALUES. The Democratic party is a greater evil, but in the end, both parties exist to move wealth from the middle class to their party patrons. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 13694240 United States 11/06/2012 11:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Obama didn't so much win as the Republicans failed to put up a viable candidate. Republicans dropped the ball in the primaries. They shut out the only real contender who could have gone up against Obama, Ron Paul. The way they treated libertarian conservatives at the RNC was disgraceful. They deserved to lose, and I hope they'll do some soul searching and think about why former republicans like me consider them irrelevant, like the Whig party of yesteryear. Bain Capital Romney would be the best choice if we needed to strip America of it's jobs and assets and sell them to China. Seems that a lot of independent voters didn't forget that. |
