The I Have No Family or Friends For the Holidays Thread

50, I'm always surprized to see people of your age on such forums. don't get it wrong, it's just that people like you don't stay on forums in romania. their loss?

Don't the Holidays always the possibility for the opposite , dark reflection of the positive side of them?

For instance, Valentines Day - man I've had some GREAT ones, and some TERRIBLE ones.

Christmas - in my younger days , growing up, I had magical christmas. Nowadays, its a sad remember of what things have become.

Halloween - I remember trick or treating, and LOVED it growing up. Eventually, it turned into AWESOME halloween parties. Then it just became another day. This year, I took my 2 year old (soon to be3) trick or treating for the first time, and it was GREAT.


Thanksgiving - Awesome that it brings your whole family together, also very miserable, since it brings your whole family together, LOL. Sad too if you don't have anyone.




Get what I'm saying? The holidays definitely bring out the emotions, for good or bad, that is for sure.

Don't be sad if you are all alone. Holidays are so over rated!!

Only those who have fallen low KNOW what life is truly all about. Don't beat yourself up over old bad choices. You're a survivor now, with much better knowledge than most people.

Just look ahead, and stop worrying about 'forgiveness.' If you knew my family -people who've never been in jail, yet have never stopped 'taking' 'judging' and sucking other's hearts dry- you just might see yourself as someone much more worthy for happiness in life.

Just start over. I have a feeling that there are people in this world who your bound to inspire...even without them knowing your background.

the worst thing about holidays with family, is having to have the right holiday 'spirit' for the occasion. If you've ever read those horrendous accounts of halloween customs' origins ,eg., jack o'lantern derived from burning a container of human fat, token of having given someone in your household to be sacrificed the year before and therefore exempted this year.[?] [close enough I think, if I'm not remembering exactly what I read.]
Then we have ruts, yearly gatherings of herds of animals to determine breeding fitness by physical competitions and other comparisons.
Bible says [I feel free to quote it now to balance out never having dreamt of doing such a thing for most of my life] people alienated from God can behave "animalistic"-ally.
So maybe these holidays, these obligatory gatherings have something of the rut about them, but given example in 1st paragraph: TALK ABOUT "SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST"!

If you're meeting to measure yourselves against one another, this might give occasion for forced smiles and forced bonhomie to beef up your presentation of fitness-as- appropriateness to the special day. Isn't 'fake' what makes us dread these things? And 'fake' in honor of what? -Honoring something at best pointless, at worst, evil.
All over the world, the holidays basically happen at the same times. they have universal ancient pagan origins that often involved human sacrifices. Discerning the true nature of the 'holiday spirit' while having to celibrate it?
We may be lucky families are more fractured and don't feel they owe as much to one another as before. More individual free will choices possible,not just slaving for 'tradition'.

Dallas is still #1...not this year though.

LOL...no way...Eagles suck. I had a girlfriend who was a huge Steelers fan, not a great mix. I was going to take her to a Steelers-Dallas game but I broke up with her about a month before the game.

Home , alone. Sick with the flu. I do this a lot for Thanksgiving. I think it is phycosomatic, so I don't have to put up with my inlaws, they suck. Am loving being alone, the peace and quiet and not having to listen to their boring dribble, such a gift. OP find someone special soon.

Why not write a poem? Alot of the poets were either depressives or bi-polar. Might act as a purgation to your situation.

Spent a lot of holidays alone. Some of the best times of my life. Went to all the places people go who are alone on the holidays. Bars, restaurants, churches. Met so many good wonderful people. Theres reslly no need to be alone if you dont want to be. If your alone revel in it, dont wallow.

I have felt very alone today as well but glad I read this thread. Thanks to the good GLP'rs who have had positive and uplifting words. Gotta love GLP!! Thanks guys!!

There's that.. everyone sitting around trying to be polite and engaging in "safe" conversations.

I do miss the opportunity to show off my awesome cooking to in laws.. but oh well. Such is vanity.

This year I only cried less than 30 seconds. That's WAY down from previous years.

I have distant family but nobody really cares about one another. I was going to spend it with this cute girl i recently met but she stopped talking to me yesterday lol. i think the only thing that really knots my stomach is not getting to spend today with the only blood i have.... My son. I'm fighting the hunger pains with leftover pizza. So its not so bad.

That's the problem with people who complain about not having family or friends - they think they're nothing without people around them and that they should be sad or depressed . . .

It's quite LIBERATING if you can get away from toxic "family" and "friends" and the best thing to do is use it your advantage . . . get to know yourself better, give your love and attention to a sweet creature, draw, paint, write, read, learn, evolve, dance, sing, appreciate nature!!!!!!
