They DO TELL THEM THIS IN SCHOOL as well as they have recruiters that come to their schools and talk to them about it...and the recruiters ALSO. Tell them thwy have to register on their 18 th bday. Quoting: Little Miss Sunshine Why didnt you as a parent know this info? I waa given the paperwork on it when my kids were in school. You are assuming all schools operate in the same manner. If the paperwork was given to my son I never got it. More than likely it was tossed in the garbage before he made it home. The only paperwork I did receive was for him to not be contacted at all by the US army, navy, air force for recruitment via cell or house phone. I signed that one immediately. |

I don't think a guy can even go to college and some other restrictions if they do not sign up for selective service. ..."The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts. Think only on those things that are in line with your principles and can bear the light of day. The content of your character is your choice. I have been following this closely for years when the next draft begins, there will be no deferment for university this time, no exemption if you're gay (thanks to don't ask don't tell repealed) and the ages spoken of are 18-42 oh yeah, this time the selective service will probably include women and per some fairly high level debates, women may be sent to the front line as well in fact, women are suing for the right to be on the front line: Army Women Sue For Frontline Combat Roles Jessica WakemanMay 24, 2012 Two female Army reservists are suing the government to overturn the ban on women in front-line combat roles. The women have pointed out that the ban will restrict their careers and affect future earnings, promotion, advancement and retirement benefits. Elsewhere in the military, the Pentagon has changed policies to open up 14,000 additional positions to women. [San Francisco Gate] Also, a defense authorization bill proposed in the Senate today would authorize women for frontline combat positions. The proposal was offered by Senator Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY). [Huffington Post] [link to www.thefrisky.com] knowledge is power Last Edited by IssueX on 12/04/2012 09:39 PM |

Get 3 high quality copies made. Send one in the form a certified copy, return receipt requested to the office. They have a tendency to "lose" those kind of cards. Send one to yourself, don't open it. Have another one for your file & put the one you send to yourself in there along with the receipt you get from the selective service. If they pull his name, they will see the objector status on there & he'll be passed over or they'll keep him stateside for menial tasks. This is what we did for my son & he hasn't been bothered at all, even the recruiters quit calling him. vaccinefreehealth blogspot com The risk far outweighs any benefit as the risk will vary from child to child. facebook.com/graphixyourway |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11934995 Canada 12/04/2012 10:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Holy shit OP you have a 19 yr old and yet you dont know about selective service. Great way to reinforce the "Americans are dumb" opinions on here.. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28098900 Nope. Never heard about it. Growing up I watched Viet Nam war live on television 24/7 and was concerned my brother would be drafted. Never heard it called SSS back then. It's a very catchy acronym though - reminds me '666'. I don't get a newspaper nor watch TV news that has to be approved by the White House before it can be aired. Never cared for mind controlled news so I guess for that I am stupid for not OBEYing and watching what you watch. you sound like you think you're think you're kind of superior for not knowing, but come ON: this is something that every 18 year old male in your contry has had to do the past 30 YEARS! Never having heard of it isn't an accomplishment. Didn't mean to sound superior. Was replying to a poster who said Americans are stupid. The news I listen to now doesn't talk about wars or drafts, that's all. Dealing with the 'Viet Nam show' on tv 24/7 for years on end back in the 60's I guess I'm sick of it, that's all. Like watching the twin tower footage over and over and over and over for years on end. Had my share of all the man made shock and awe. thinking you can ignore wars or drafts when you live in the country with the world's most powerful military, one that intervenes all over the world on a regular basis, is foolish. i'm guessing your son's letter may have awakened you to that. about last sentence of your original post -- owning property in canada doesn't gie you the right to live here. and living here doesn't execmpt your son from selective service laws unless he renounces his citizenship and (presumably) never returns to the us again. |

Right, they also like drafting boys whose parents do this: "The only paperwork I did receive was for him to not be contacted at all by the US army, navy, air force for recruitment via cell or house phone. I signed that one immediately." Since they put themselves on the Do Not Call list, the Army doesn't have to deal with the parents ever again, even if their kid is drafted and dies. They can read about it in the news with everyone else, or if they're not that observant, they'll figure out something is wrong when it dawns on them he should have been home from the war by now. |

There has been no military draft since Vietnam. And if there is and you object to war, I would not go at all. No stateside service either. The military has been known to test chemical & nuclear weapons on those objectors. Fill out the draft card, just dont go in if ever called up. They may or may not round up all the objectors. |
