Just like at some point your hair quits making pigment. etc. if the world doesn't end or whatever i predict docs will be able to reverse superficial aging like that in twenty or so years. immortality is just another scientific problem looming in the near future. |

Quoting: Super Bowl Dave Sun, smoking & alcohol. Lowered production of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid. To me, the surest sign of facial aging is not wrinkles, it is skin sagging and fat deposits in the face. People in their late 30s and into their 40s may look like they did in their 20s, but their faces are plumper, there seems to be more extra skin. This seems to be the main reason why our brains distinguish between old and young. I don't know why this happens, but weight gain probably is a big part of it. I also regard "50" as old. Once you pass 50, everything begins to break down and you really start looking like a corpse. LOL......I thought that happened at age 70.......... |

Quoting: Super Bowl Dave Sun, smoking & alcohol. Lowered production of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid. AGEs -- advanced glycation end-products. High caloric diets produce more heat = more free radical production. Low caloric diets induce the body into starvation mode and actually seems to alter some aging genes. I've been eating low calorie for years, usually 1200 a day. The body is genetically designed to age and die, in addition to environmental effects. To me, the surest sign of facial aging is not wrinkles, it is skin sagging and fat deposits in the face. People in their late 30s and into their 40s may look like they did in their 20s, but their faces are plumper, there seems to be more extra skin. In addition, males produce more testosterone, and this is believed to create a more youthful appearance by the support of the fat pads in the face, the elasticity of the skin tissue, etc. Women produce testosterone too in their adrenals but of course in much smaller amounts. Often a person will gain weight as they age. Belly fat ends up forming estrogen on its own. This counters the effects of testosterone and leads to premature aging or produces feminization of facial features. Smoking starves the tissues of oxygen. It prematurely ages the skin. It deprives the mitochondria of the oxygen that they need to produce ATP. The sun created thymine dimers. They're mistakes in the genetic code during replication. The body has a genetic mechanism to repair these errors, but continuous sun damage makes it impossible to repair it all. It result in premature aging of the skin. Inflammation is caused by eating processed food or simply eating a lot of really bad food on a regular basis. Say you eat too much saturated animal fat, it creates pockets of inflammation in the arteries and so the entire immune system is working overtime to repair all of that. Eating foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and eating a varied diet of loads of antioxidants help repair the free radical oxidative species that cause chain reactions of inflammation. In truth most disease is probably caused by inflammation being perpetually present. While I love meat and am a true carivore, if someone is a healthy vegetarian, than they usually look younger. The issue is most load up on too much wheat and cheese and end up looking like Mother Earth slobs instead of getting healthier. I'm sure you know the type, they refuse meat and then get obese by loading up calories. That's obviously trading one bad behavior for another. Because our bodies change out cells for the most part every 40 days, then you have a potential to change your appearance. Surely everyone has met a divorced person who decided to make themselves look better to catch a new spouse. It's entirely possible, just good diet and exercise. It's about using moderation to limit the times we eat the cheesecake. But despite all that, post 45 or so, the fat pads begin to sag as does the elasticity of the skin of the face. That makes it very difficult to maintain youthfulness. It's believed to be the effects of diminishing growth hormone, and so some people take very expensive treatments to maintain their youthful facial features. |
