What's fake about American Restoration? They're not actually repairing/restoring the items featured on that show???

I wasn't so much thinking it was all fake as I was that there sure must have been a multitude of boring non profitable storage unit purchases that were left out of the program.

My mother and I used to go to those auctions once in a while and did glean a few goodies, but it was mostly things we didn't want that went to the Salvation Army box.

Yeah no shit i remember Brandi back in highschool she was always skippin class and going out. She was also a good lay.

I hate the premise of that show!

They are cashing in on people who couldn't afford to keep their stuff. A lot of what they're getting belonged to people down and out because of this economy.

Something's wrong with us for watching this show.

When I see antiques people clearly had in their families for years be turned over to these vultures makes me ill.

If I could, I'd buy those units and give the stuff back to the people it rightfully belongs to.

What about all the money spent by people thinking they would make a score like they saw on TV. The Auctioneers and the storage places cashed in big time because of this show. Not to mention the folks that were buyers before, who spent more because of the new bidders.

Hate to burst your bubble but that's not entirely true...

Here is the run down on an average 10 unit sale:

2 to 3 are Druggies / Drunks, that are in jail, prison or to high to give a shit.

2 are where the renter somehow got into the unit and took what they needed or could sell and left the broken furniture and junk / trash.

2 are business units that have gone out, or about to, and want someone to clean up their mess.

1 to 2 are units owned by, a elderly person whom has passed or gone into a nursing home and the kids don't want "Mom's old stuff"

and 2 may be folks "down on their luck"

and before you ask, I'm an Auctioneer and sell about 3 sites like this a month...

How many think "Hoarders" is faked? Like.. they go down to the city landfill, and scoop up trucks full of trash and fill a house with it, then hire actors to pretend like they live there?

Fake or not I'll continue watching this show.

Dot, don't know about the show because I've never watched it but I can say this, there are ALOT more Hoarders than you think...

I've lost count of the number of estates the I've been called to asking "how much can you get for this at Auction"...sad thing is most time the stuff is beyond sellable.

The show was suppose to come out and film at our storage facility but cancelled due to bad weather. Legally, there is strict protocol we must follow with units going to auction to avoid being sued. Units going for auction MUST have tamper proof locks before being opened...period... and we were not asked to break any rules. I don't know how they were able to get around the legality of "placing" things in the units...and I find it hard to believe any owner or manager would risk doing that for a show.... but I guess it's possible. I do know people store classic cars, bikes, gold and very valuable items in them.

Maybe seeing it as you do helps you feel better about what you do for a living. I still maintain this is morally wrong.

My brother is an actor in LA. Lots of his friends are writers, and some of them write the scripts for the reality shows. This is funny--last year, the reality script writers wanted to strike for higher pay, but they were not permitted to strike, because then the public might realize that the shows were scripted.

If the Housewives argue, it is because the script demanded it. usually.

I think Hoarders is one of the few shows that are real. No way their can imitate foot high piles of encrusted cat feces and dust and rotten food. Over the years , theres a certain pile that stuff takes on when its not organized. Hoarders is the real deal.

that show has to be rigged. ever go to a storage auction? get your phonebook out or search them and call the office for auction dates. drive over and check one out. a bunch of white trash and units filled with shit ppl don't want. they leave the shit there for a reason, its trash. never anything good
