What the hell is an "assault weapon"? First you must come up with an operant definition in order to have a meaningful question for me to respond to. Please get back to me on this, OP.

I am a gun owner, I hunt when I want. I really do not think an ak47 is a necessary for civilians.

According to our government, America is infiltrated by sleeper cells ready to attack us within. Now, the government is not aware of where they are or how many, nor do they know where they will attack. This is the war on terror that has spilled blood and treasure for the government assessment. Why would you not want to be armed when these sleepers come to life?

Assault RIFLES are automatic weapons (actually selective fire - can be auto, burst, or semi-auto). "Assault WEAPONS" is a political term used to ban scary looking guns (ie. "Assault Weapons Ban"). This is part of the problem with this conversation. People are talking about different things thinking they're talking about the same thing. I posted a video earlier in the thread that should have made this clear.

I don't think the average citizen needs assault weapons. If you need something for protection, I figure there is something more suitable. I think both your gov't and ours
need to do a better job of keeping the weaponry out of the
hands of criminals. Then people would not have as much need to own guns.

LOL....... the government - at least the U.S. government - is the top provider of arms, ammo and conventional weapons to the world this includes criminals and nations with human rights abuses.
As long as my government is selling weapons of war, I think that is as good of a reason as any for the public to own assault weapons.
How could anyone want the government to disarm every day citizens who are not breaking any laws when the very same government gives weapons to just about anyone else in the world seems a bit crazy to me.
