Surges of 5+ feet near Philly NOW!!! The waters have stayed flooded in areas of florida since sandy. If our mag north is shifting as fast as it would appear we may lose large areas of the eastern coast in the coming year. Good post Luis and this is something that will become an issue. Magnetic not physical shifts occur every 360,000 years on average. Our last one was 680,000 years ago,we're due. This isn't a world ending event, but will cause many earth changes ,some will be large. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30546958 Please point out where, and why, otherwise this is a waste of time post I remember reading about a giant bubble/bulge of water at the north pole, at the begining of the year. Perhaps it is slowly draining into the rest of the oceans? I actually think it's a combo of many factors, but this could be one of them? I found a link: [link to why.knovel.com] Maybe it's not enough to have the total effect, but it might be part of what's going on? _________________________________________________ "However, researchers conjecture that the effect could be increasing of late because the traditional solid ice floes of the Arctic have begun to melt away in places as the globe continues to warm. As ice becomes freer to move around, more energy is transferred to it and the water underneath, speeding up the rotation of the gyre and increasing the collection of fresh water. This collection of fresh water poses little danger in itself, but researchers are concerned about the potential implications if the situation changes. The gyre relies upon the prevailing winds, so any change in those currents could just as easily disperse the water that has collected." "In particular, researchers are concerned about the possibility of large amounts of fresh water from the gyre crossing the Arctic and exiting into the Northern Atlantic Ocean." Here is a good link to BBC describing the anomoly: [link to www.bbc.co.uk] |

I didn't see any flood watches yesterday, but his morning there was flooding (in areas that are prone to flooding). This seemed like kind of a surprise to everyone around here (NJ). Considering what we just went through with Sandy, people are hyper alert to flooding, but nobody expected this.
