Just a little research on your part (and others screaming igorantly with the same voice) would show that the amountof money paid in by just the average guy/woman over the course of a working life, say 30 years, and with just a typical savings return would, at a minimum, tripled in that time. I paid in the maximum every year for over 30, dip shit, and if i live to be 90 i would not have recouped what i paid in and would have received if i had been able to invest it for myself. Screw you.

Social Security is/was a fully funded operation. It is the 'borrowing' of it for off budget items that has left it with IOUs.

No one likes to think about the young. Old people want you to pay for their retirement, never mind that people in their 20s and 30s have college debts, might want to start their own families, can barely find work as it is and are struggling to feed their own families, if they have a family.

When Social Security was set up in the 1930s, it originally exempted business owners from paying in to it. The reason? The government thought if you were smart enough to run your own business then you shouldn't have to pay in to Social Security. Stated different, the average person is too stupid to save money.

Many people will decry these cuts as barbaric, but Social Security is a terrible program to begin with. Just because politicians over promised the Baby Boomers, doesn't mean that Social Security is underfunded. That's why promises shouldn't be made unless they can be kept. But politicians don't care about the public, they only care about themselves and getting elected.

Baby Boomers will just have to admit they were lied to and bought in to the idea of a generational ponzi scheme. Either there's honest cuts to Social Security and other entitlement programs or the purchasing power of our money will further decline due to higher inflation than what already exists.

Regardless, we're all going to pay dearly for the idiotic policies voted for by the masses and implemented by the political class. Thanks to military adventurism, excessive taxes, excessive regulations, Wall Street fraud, enormous government deficits and Ben Bernanke monetizing our deficits to the tune of over $1 trillion a year, we're all fucked.

Of all the elderly collecting what they paid in, have you ever considered how many people pay in and die before age 65 and never collect a cent??? I have many dead friends like that - paid in for years, never saw a cent of it.

My case, $698/month SSI, and then a huge whooping $30/month food-stamps. A single person, paying $400/month for rent and utility in a rented Room. After rent I have $298/month, I have no car. $298/30 days = $9.93/day. Of that $298, I spend an addition $120/month on food (not fast food either, like McDonalds, or Pizza Hut). This leaves me $170/month to do other things, like do laundry, buy clothes and shoes, aspirin, etc.. or $170/30 days = $5.10 per day. Oh, and I worked 30 years full time at above minimum wage. I am not 65 yet, so not able to get regular social security, so this is all I can get.

I assume you have some form of income besides just your food stamps.

Heart attack and stroke at 59 y.o.a.. paid into SS for for 30 years. Doctors said it was a true miracle that I did not die. So, yeah, what you say is very valid. Who paid my doctor and hospital bills? The Roman Catholic Church, go figure not the U.S. Government nor my State Government.

Oh, and family WILL tell you to go get social services aid before they even think about helping you out more than what they themselves have paid in SS payments and all the other Taxes they have paid to the U.S. Government and State.
