Re: my husband has 102 temp- what should i do
open the windows to get the room temp to outside temp

put a fan blowing on his bare back while he lays on his side

untill he shivers cold to the bone and cannot take it anymore.

transport him to ER in your car or ambulance

have docs examine him

maybe your thermometer is off by 3 deg and he's really 105; or

maybe he's weak and 102 will damage him perminantly or kill him.

Cool him (freeze his @ss off like I described above) and transport him to the ER.

From Earth Clinic:

"Egg Whites:

By far the best method to lower a high temperature within MINUTES! When I was about 4 or 5 years old, I had acquired a fever so high that I started to hallucinate. My mother was in a panic, she feared brain damage if something didn't lower the fever and FAST. My grandma told her about an old-wives' remedy.

Soak 2 cloths or hankerchiefs in egg whites and put on the soles of the feet (cover with socks). The egg whites instantaneously start to draw the temperature DOWN from the brain (where it is dangerous) to the feet (where it can do no damage). After that incident my mom used this method successfully every time I had high temp. If no eggs are on hand, chopped onion or chopped potato can be applied to feet instead, although egg whites are the fastest method."

This works. I was going to just write the post myself, but thought it a better idea to quote and link Earth Clinic..

Lots of fluids, lots of rest.......

Also,

100,000 of Vit. A daily for 3 days

After 3 days, switch over to Vit. D3 - 150,000 IU daily for 7 days.

Then back down to 10,000 IU daily until summer.

Don't give any fever reducers (tylenol), except if he is in pain as this reduce the fever & prolong the illness. The body is producing a fever in order to fight a bug.

I've spent hours researching natural ways to keep good health, natural healing & how to use Vitamins to fight bugs. I also listen to countless hours of webinars run by doctors, naturalpaths/homeopaths,etc.

The Vit. D3 regimen comes from Dr. Eisenstein. It was the only thing that kept my daughter out of the hospital when she had the H1N1 flu 3 years ago. I learned about the Vit. A regimen to give the immune system a big kick start about a year ago. (don't remember where it came from)

Vit. D3 recommendations from a doctor -

You best call 911 asap ! 102 temp is not that serious for a baby, but for an adult it is !

No, I am not kidding, and I'm a retired nurse....could be a serious infection and need antibiotics !

This is true. 911. You need to cool him off as quickly as possible, get him awake, and get liquids into him if you can while you are waiting for them.

Put cool wet towels on him. All over him. Put ice cubes on the towels. If you don't have ice cubes, use frozen veggies (still in the pack). If he wakes up, give him some cool water to drink. A lot of it.

But there is such a thing called Reyes Syndrome. If one has a fever and this syndrome, aspirin can cause the brain to swell.

I would give tylenol for a fever...aches and pains...aspirin.

I could be wrong, but u should listen to the retired nurse. She would know best.

Jeezus - hope youre not buying these replies (with the exception of 3-4).
A fever is good. It's your body's immune system fighting or "burning" off infection. If it gets higher, it's getting to be a harder battle so you should take him to the Dr. For now, let it burn. Give him A LOT of filtered water, clear juices (watered down), pedialyte, and clear chicken broth if he wants it. Lots of fluids will help flush out kidneys & bodily waste material, so the more he urinates, expels waste, the better. If he needs something for pain, try to use aspercream or tiger balm so you don't stop the fever.
And yes, interned at hospital

It's called life. You need to pay attention to the things that go by as you live. Over a number of years you learn a lot of shit. You get sick, your wife gets sick, your kids get sick, the people you work with get sick. So you talk about these things and learn what is going on. Today we have the internet and google which provides an amazing amount of information. I don't "do" what my doctors says. We talk about it and decide what I am going to do. If the doctor is too self-important to go with that, then fuck him anyway and get another.

Anyone who says 102 is emergency room material is a fucking waste case. Especially that idiotic doomfield nurse. 102 is when you take fever reducer, not when you start treating him like Tim Robbins in Jacob's Ladder.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11676269

Exactly.

If he has a sustained fever OVER 103 then he needs to seek medical attention. 102 for a couple days isn't going to kill him.

I have influenza a..have had it since last Tuesday, had a fever of 102 for quite a few days. My doctor didn't spaz the fuck out and tell me to call 911. He recommended fever reducers and plenty of fluids. My mom didn't spaz out either and she was a nurse.

102 isn't going to give you brain damage either, as another poster suggested.
And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

I am an evil giraffe, and I shall eat more leaves from this tree than perhaps I should, so that other giraffes may die.

Advice that is thrown out by the ignorant and uneducated can cause a lot of harm. In a situation like the one the OP describes, a fever of 102 is a serious condition. If it worsens, they're not far out from needing medical care from a qualified professional medical practitioner.

Don't want to take statins? Fine, I understand the pros and cons. Don't agree with vaccinations due to their dubious contents? Okay, I'd not push back. You prefer a more holistic approach to treatment? That's great! But there are some situations where it's best to seek actual medical care.

Re: my husband has 102 temp- what should i do
Tylenol to lower fever.

Lots of plain water, yes, to stay hydrated - very important when ill.
But be careful - too much water intake will flush away needed nutrients and salt.
Salt deficiency is very dangerous.
Make sure he drinks some broth or eats chicken soup.

Salted dry roasted Sunflower Seeds are an excellent way to keep salt in the body, but also has Selenium -helps fight colds / flus - and is a good source of Vitamin E.

Eat a healthy diet - no snacking on surgery junk food - that causes inflammation and makes symptoms worse.
No dairy - causes phloem to thicken.

Take anti-bacterial, anti-virus, anti- fungus things like :

Oil of Oregano

Apple Cider Vinegar - also lowers the body's PH which is harder for the illness to multiply.
2 Tablespoons in 5 or 8 oz of water and drink a mouth full every 2 hours or so.

Colloidal Silver

Elderberry extract

Vitamin D3

Vitamin C - Airborne has a Lot of good natural cold/flu fighter supplements in it - boosts the immune system - helps heal the body faster.

Garlic - comes in pill form at health food stores

MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL :

PRAY TO JESUS for healing.

Does he have flu symptoms? Body aches, fever, cough, slight sore throat, nausea, diarrhea, headache? If so he needs rest and Advil or Mucinex flu liquid works well. The flu is bad this year and it will take 7-10 days to recover. It's not uncommon to have a high fever for a few days. He needs fluids like juice, hot tea, water or chicken soup. He most likely will not be very hungry for a few days. If his fever gets up to 104 or he has any other symptoms like extreme pain go to the ER.

I hope you understand this.

What of my advice do you disagree with?
BA, age 65, IQ 138 and I'm not held to the AMA paradigm that you are. I don't have salesgirls calling on me pushing the newest medicine and I'm not making a penny on someone being sick. I have no other motivation to help people other than human kindness. My advice is free and people can take it or skip it.
Statins are worthless and are harmful. It's infections that cause plaque and not butter or coconut oil. The cardiologists sent my father to an early grave with their drugs and nonsense advice. If vaccinations were effective, the vaccinated people wouldn't give a shit if everyone got one or not. Usually it's the vaccinated people that get sick.

LISTEN UP! THIS IS THE CURE!

1. Fill up a coffee mug with milk.

2. Warm up in the microwave, getting the milk good and hot.

3. Pour in a reasonable amount of GRADE A NATURAL HONEY into the milk and stir.

4. Let your husband drink the entire mug while it is "steamy."

5. This is GUARANTEED to cure or relieve your husband from fever or the symptoms from flu, cold, bronchitis, etc.

6. THIS WORKS!!! TRY IT!!!

This is an old cure past down through my great-grandmother's generation...

Re: my husband has 102 temp- what should i do
I had to take my husband to the ER Christmas morning, and we had to go back last night-- he has flu AND pneumonia :(

The reason I took him in was he was spiking 104 and I couldn't keep it down even with alternating tylenol and motrin (good therapy when you are dealing with a lower temp). He was getting dehydrated because of the fever- I couldn't keep enough liquid in him even though he was cooperating with drinking. Horrible, horrible cough that is super painful.
They gave him IV antibiotics last night and he is doing better today.

I wouldn't spaz and run to the ER for a 102 temp, but make sure that temp is the high, not spiking maybe when you are missing it. I take my husbands temp every hour (more when he is in the high temps) to make sure it doesn't run out of control again. FLUIDS. I cannot stress this enough. Push them on the patient. If they can't keep them down or can't drink, then you need to consider the ER for fluids. Be forewarned the ER can be nasty during flu season, so you don't want to go unless you have to. We were lucky on Christmas, it was empty. Last night- totally different story.

If fever is caused by infection, alternating doses of acetaminophen and ibuprofen will help.

Do not use aspirin. It may be toxic in large doses in adults or cause Reyes syndrome in children. If fever is caused by exposure to heat, then you need to cool the person down as soon as possible with cool water.

Fever in Adults Treatment

Self-Care at Home

You can make the diagnosis of fever by taking your temperature with a thermometer. The best place in an adult is to put the thermometer in the mouth or rectum, using a rectal thermometer.

In general, a fever can be reduced with ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Both medications help control pain and fever. Alternating doses of each will also work and prevent accidental overdose. At times, a combination of both acetaminophen and ibuprofen will be needed to stop the fever.

Aspirin is not the first choice for fever reduction. It may be toxic in large doses in adults or cause Reye syndrome in children.

* Ibuprofen stops the hypothalamus from raising the body temperature. It comes in 200 mg tablets purchased over the counter at a drug store. You may take 1-2 tablets every 4 hours to decrease your temperature. Use the lowest possible dose.

Something like Gatorade is best to replace fluids.
I wouldnt give milk unless he really really wanted it.Many people dont handle milk well and some even have an allergy to it.I do and would be in the hospital not able to breath if I drink a milk remedy.
With a cold/flu milk makes Phlegm worse.Honey is good.
Its very important to stay hydrated.Dehydration will lead to a lot more problems.
