The first rifle I bought myself as a kid was a stainless Ruger 10/22, I bought them a Savage stainless bolt action Lr .22 with a 10 rnd magazine.

Yup that's what I do no dipping into the stash. The cost of range ammo has gone way up though.

I was looking at a Sig Sauer M400 back in October and the going price was around $1000. There are several on gunbroker for over $2000 now. Same with the ammo. 1000 rounds of .223 could be had for under $300. Now the price is around $800. Capitalism at it's finest.

The two Walmart stores I went in this morning were running pretty low. I'm not surprised, I suppose. People are panic buying and its creating an artificial shortage.

Once this blows over in a couple of months, and I think its going to, demand should fall off and supply should return to normal.

You all misunderstand. I saw a thread a while ago that said they INVENTED a primer that goes bad in 6 months. Think about what this means. It could render all ammo useless in 6 months. So, if they wanted to they could make all ammo manufacturers use this type primer and stop production 6 months later all that ammo is bad.

It's insane the cost now...we don't go as much as we used to, they all know how to shoot accurately now, so it's just for entertainment at this point.

Just checked arfcom equipment exchange and some people are asking insane prices for .223 ammo. 500rd case for $400... Green tip ammo is almost double that.

okay, after more looking, the patent exists but it has not been implemented. I suppose it could be used but this is a common rumour around gun owners/preparers. Sorry to waste your time.

It's good I'm not needy. Great to see something increase in value when so much has been done without to put away for a rainy day.
One fellow in Michigan spent his fortune/retirement in the 90's on ammo. He's been living quite well for the last 10 years selling to the Militia for less than market price.

You didn't waste our time. They pushed this quite hard I think in the early years of Bush II and I think in the late 90's.
