I read that article from Drudge. All I have to say about that is that the very idea makes me feel nauseated.

Dumbing down process in the education system has advanced far too rapidly so they need to clone neandrethals to bring the averages back up.

Dumb asses, there are many Neanderthals alive now. Why do they want more!

Everything they say about them fits some people today. They are just guessing about the Neanderthal. They need to look around their labs, I am sure they have a few working there, or they need to look in the mirror!

I think we have enough Neanderthals running amuck in Washington, D.C., no need for even a single extra one.

As long as the child is recognized at a human being. I also think it would be a good idea to have several from different mothers at the same time. Otherwise the kid will grow up as an insane, maladjusted outcast.

Sure it's neat that they figured out how to. But why? Why would they want to do something like this? This would be showing how arrogant these geneticists are because it is playing god.

They shouldn't even be thinking of bringing back something like this unless there's a really good reason. If anything why try bringing back the Wooly Mammoth or the Saber Tooth Tiger ( Smilodon) ? Or how about something that had gone extinct due to humans overhunting in the past?
Messing with the Neanderthal genes and having a woman of today giving birth to one would be throwing in things into the mix where they shouldn't be.

De-evolving comes to mind when I think of this.

I think they did that 59 years ago. Google Scientific America, Neanderthal cover. I don't remember when it was done. That looks exactly like my me with a Neanterthal skull inside my head. It doesn't look anything like the pic. in the article.

neanderthals were limited to simple tools of stone and wood, but that by itself doesn't mean anything regarding whether they are smarter or dumber than modern humans. in fact the odds are they were smarter because they had to memorize much land area and hunt game that runs faster. put a modern human, without any education, in a neanderthal's environment, and he probably would not have done as well. we rely on knowledge acquired from others, and we're good at it, but they relied mostly on wits.

the professor's speculation that he might bring a "neanderthal way of thinking" and solve the problems of mankind is utterly ridiculous. he will grow up in the modern world and think like a modern man. if he wants a neanderthal opinion all the has to do is ask some street bums, the ones that he has been turning his nose up at his entire life. the fucking idiot.

a neanderthal won't be affected by modern germs. their immune system adapts throughout childhood just like ours does. in fact his immune system should be more robust.

however the child will probably have stronger instincts toward violence, sexuality, predation, etc. we retain vestiges of those instincts but they are muted by life in a civilized society. having stronger instincts would make that behavior show through.

I think with the neanderthal exposed to our modern education and society, he would be strikingly more intelligent but have less patience toward learning due to an overwhelming desire to socialize, screw women and be on the move. therefore along with his robust physique he would be well suited for athletics. although he would excel he would still be regarded as "that neanderthal freak".

whether he is handsome or ugly remains to be seen.

Yup, just like 30,000 years ago when the Levant homo sapiens got tired of their women and only wanted Neanderthal chicks. Proven by the matriarcal DNA. :)

We are them.
All sub-species of current civilized H.sapiens have Neanderthal DNA except the Sub-Saharan negro.


+1000 generations of civilized society would have that effect, not all human sub-species share that experience.

New evidence indicates Neanderthal man was actually more technologically advanced than the Homo Sapiens who came in from Africa and ended up outnumbering them. Homo sapiens outbred Neanderthals and eventually interbred with Neanderthal man.

DNA testing has shown that European and Asian populations all have a small percentage of Neanderthal DNA. People of African descent have no Neanderthal DNA.

World technology advances have generally come from Europe & Asia. Maybe some Neanderthal would be a good thing to get back into the population.
