At least a .40 cal glock. Might also consider a 12 gauge ,maybe not as sexy ,but very effective in close encounters but of course not as nimble. If you have kids, you need to have things secured and safe, obviously. |

If you live near your neighbors and Over penatration is possible Go with a shotgun. I can't tell you what you would like, you have to go to a gun store and check out a few of them. If you plan to carry. Get some training. At least take the NRA basic pistol course. As for a carry gun, you should go to a range that rents guns. Try several. What you want and what will be good for you may not be the same thing. |

Do you live in a urban area? Tell us some more please. How can people advise someone to get a certain gun when they barely know anything about his situation? Geez... |

RF User ID: 1287633 United States 02/07/2013 07:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'd suggest a 12 gauge shotgun as well. Buy a variety of ammo for it. a 12 gauge is the most versatile gun a homeowner can possess by offering so many ammunition choices. buy buckshot or birdshot for home defense. Slugs for when TSHF. Get the combo slug/buckshot rounds. Make your own wax slugs. Buy some aguila mini shells. Get some dragon breath to scare the crap out of the intruder. 12 gauges are cheap to buy. They are easy to clean. They are awesome looking. And for fun you can take them skeet shooting. |

There are so many. This is like work. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1474948 So, this is for the people who really know their guns. If you had to pick one , to defend yourself and your property (no hunting), money is no object, what would u buy? And nothing that is considered illegal by the government, as the laws stand today, so no machine guns or fully automatics Make and model. Anybody? Your question is too vague, So I will have multiple answers For defense inside a home in the city. I would say a Shotgun! Benelli M4 unless you expect zombie wave attacks then maybe A siaga 12 ga. with lots of spare mags. For a car gun-go to work gun I would Go with a Pistol: Sig 226 elite in .40 cal .357 Sig is better but hard to get right now. Buy a .357 Sig upper to swap out with the .40cal For rural defense I say Rifle: Screw the M16 and all it's variants! It requires too much care and cleaning. I am of the opinion that an SKS is the best Semi-Auto defense rifle on the market today. Some will argue, But I trust the SKS. There are thousands of arguments for different designs and calibers, however I feel VERY confident in these recommendations. Personally I believe in a large frame revolver with a semi-auto for backup. |

<<FOCUS>> User ID: 33194738 United States 02/07/2013 08:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 1 gun And you said it's main purpose is defending your property and home. AK47 Since you said only 1 gun, pistol is out because of long range shotgun is out because of long range - unless you are switching barrels - but then I guess you could shoot slugs, but still you are limited on distance. 12 gauge is my 2nd choice. Yep, AK47, you are good out to about 200 yards, wont jam, 30 rd standard capacity magazines, but you can get 100 round drums. You can get a folding stock and turn it into something easier to use inside your home. Anyone can learn to shoot, disassemble and clean in about an hour. Go with a trijicon scope to switch between using it for close or distant engagements. |

Rossi Circuit Judge. This is a revolver rifle that shoots 45 longs, or 410 shotgun shells. Bring on the zombies, I am ready for them.
