I live on Long Island in NY Suffolk County It has been snowing continuously since 2 pm and I currently have about 8 inches. Winds arent too bad yet about 30 mph from what I can tell. I'll keep you in the loop.

You guys are about a day behind us here in Toronto. That is when it started snowing here yesterday. And it is still snowing. :) Not as much, but still coming down and still windy. Freezing cold down by the lake. You guys are right beside the ocean too, so you have it rougher!

Guys, what does GFS stand for, in weather-terminology? I have seen it mentioned a few times, but can't track down the meaning. Thanks!

Sadly, there are morans on this site who think this storm is no big deal. They have no clue the difference between light fluffy snow and wet heavy snow.

Oh I will. Filled the fuel tank a few days ago and recently bought an elec. space heater so when I feel cold I can just sit near that instead of turning up the thermostat. haha. If worst comes to worst and we lose power, my parents are less than 5 minutes away and have a wood stove. A few years ago, I believe it was 2004, we got a really bad snow storm in October and we lost power for 3 days. Stayed with them, it worked =)

Well I can't speak for others that are being affected, but from where I am its a major disappointment. Calm winds and normal snow.. just a lot piling up now. But if this continues for days on end then I would call doom on.

I'm in NEPA and I have checked with friends in Westchester.. nothing special or noteworthy as yet.

Seems to be a lot of hype by the gov and media on this one.

Too much hype will kill the buzz when the real doom comes, people will be complacent next time.

We get over 200 inches every year - we don't act like the world is coming to an end. We just laughed at the Weather Channel dude standing in NYC Times Square and telling the world how horrible the weather is - you could see the damn pavement in the background! I haven't seen the pavement on our main street in two months - we still don't miss a day of school.

I am sure you already know this but i will say it for anyone else reading.

If you loose heat and its nasty out where its not safe to travel move everyone into a small room or closet in the center of your house. Just the body heat from a few people and a candle or two can keep you reasonably warm.

I live in NYC Staten Island, and there's not much happening. As of 10:00pm friday there's only about one inch of snow, and it looks like not much more will happen. There is also no wind at all.

Don't know how bad it is by you Amy but here on Long Island it varies, much worse on the North Shore Here.

THings are not so bad on the South Shore here, 4" of ice/snow so far and I expect no power outage.

Damn, I bought $100 of gasoline just in case... Oh well will dump it in my boat with some stabalizer.

Looking forward to summer :)

Hope you guys further North find it also much easier than expected.

eastern Ct and we still have power.
were over a foot of snow already and the wind has picked up. Its sticking to everything and is a really heavy snow.
