The ancient Roman Empire comes to mind as an excellent example. They also had an over extended military paid with and increasingly worthless currency and a central governmental control structure that was completely corrupt and dethatched from its incompatibly multicultural citizens.

Our debt load to China has fallen from over 1 trillion to just under 700 billion since 2010, and their composition of their holdings are now heavily weighted to short term debt. The Fed has been buying China out of our debt that entire time. In fact for the past two years the largest buyer of US debt has been the Fed, and they are now the single largest holder of our debt.

Even after exchanging 40 Billion per month worth of T-Bills to the large banks in exchange for Mortgage Backed Securities...this has also made the Fed the largest Mortgage Holder in the USA...
