Since Obama got in office congress has never had a budget. Our government spends about $1.25 trillion more a year than they make in taxes. They make up the difference in selling bonds, debt. That adds $1.25 trillion a year to our national debt, that you and your children are supposed to pay off through your taxes. No country of the world has ever paid off its debt (except sweden 1 time I think) but that is another subject.

To make our debt still seem valuable so that banks can hold it on their assets side of the balance sheet our government invented the debt ceiling limit, or a total amount of debt that cannot be exceeded. They did this to make it seem our debt is "credible" and we are good for our debts (lol). The debt ceiling limit has been raised over 75 times. Lately, they raise the limit every 1-2 years.

The last debt ceiling limit debate in congress was almost an impasse, so they agreed to several items to pass the last temporary limit. One of these items was automatic spending cuts, something like $800 billion over 10 years (what a joke). The limit was supposed to go in effect on Jan.1 2013 but they kicked the can until march (avoided making any real decisions).

Now march is coming and the debt ceiling limit has not been addressed so the automatic spending cuts are supposed to take effect. They will probably come up with kind of last minute kick the can agreement to avoid dealing with reality again for another 6 months or so.

Airports can get private security for less money than they have to pay the Govt for TSA...

This is a scare tactic, and yes they probably will slow things down just to create a backlash, but it's bullshit, your local airport can fix this in a heartbeat by firing TSA and going private security!!!

You can probably bet that there will be no TSA cuts. The real crap is that the 1 trillion $ cut is to phase in over 10 years. 100 billion a year. Now if the current yearly spending is 3.5 trillion the total first year cut would only be 2.8% and I've heard that the immediate cutback is only 22 billion $ or .6% and yet they claim everything will fall apart with a .6% cut......... BS!!!!!

They want everyone to clamour that we must spend more not less, thereby hastening the collapse of the US.

There are a great many people that should be imprisoned for treason....... which is exactly what this is.

Oh well........ until a significant portion of us are willing to die to fight it then it will progress as planned.

I really wish the cuts would go into effect so the politicians could get a feel for how their catering to special interest groups has become normal practice for every interest group. I wish I could be a fly on the wall to hear their phones ringing off the hook from every fiefdom they created.

February 22– To prepare for the possibility of a budget sequestration on March 1, 2013, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is making plans to reduce its expenditures by approximately $600 million for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2013.

Among the changes we are considering are furloughing the vast majority of our 47,000 employees for approximately one day per pay period; closing over 100 air traffic control facilities; eliminating the overnight shift at over 60 facilities; and reducing preventive maintenance and support for all air traffic control equipment. All of these changes will be finalized as to scope and details through collaborative discussions with our users and our unions.

Lay em all off! Drain the swamp. Start with the IRS but the criminals are going to hold out essential services like air traffic controllers to try and get their way. Why is it that whenever a "crisis" takes place and government jobs and budget is concerned, the only and first things to get put into play are the goods and services that the general public uses or needs. the people and taxpayers are the employers of the people in washington. Why are they able to vote to increase their wages, their income does not stop comming in as a result of their failure to conduct the nations business as they all were voted to do. If they fail to perfourm their duties, they should be held accountable by witholding their pay until a solution is found. As O-bamba said, we all neet to do our part. As one of your employers, a tapayer, do yor damn job.

The 800,000 defense employees...what I read was that they aren't being laid off, they all have to take days off without pay. Given they are paid ridiculously high wages, who cares? Maybe they should start by closing those GD fusion centers if money is so tight!

This is all about punishment. If YOU, American citizens, do not give us unfettered access to YOUR money, we will find 1000 ways to make your lives miserable. Such as creating massive delays at airports, etc., so the public will BEG the gov't to take whatever they want to make the pain stop.
