That was a BIG crash!!

There's a reason why it states 'MOTORSPORT IS DANGEROUS' on the back of your ticket. That's their get out of jail free card.

UPDATE: @JEFF_CLUCK reports a motor and tire flew into the stands at Daytona following crash; people in 'upper deck' may have been injured

Hearing several injuries, some possible severe. Rumor that s cameraman was directly hit and possibly killed.

Hopefully he'll at least get the footage. If you're gonna go out then at least do it in style.

Did they actually think that fence would hold a crashing car?

The engine and front suspension ended up just on the fan side of the grandstand on the walkway by the fence. I did see one of the tires launch into the stands (was watching on tv at home, not at the track) and I figure a lot of smaller parts like springs and shock absorbers flew into the stands also.

They just had Mike Helton in the booth and he looked very subdued, and I think there are some major injuries and possibly deaths from this.

Did this just happen?

The motor stayed in the fence. The fence did stop the car from getting into the stands. It has kept cars and trucks out of the stands before.

Here is the only replay they showed on ESPN, and you can clearly see one of the front tires launching into the fans, along with other small parts and pieces.

That tire definitely hit some people :(

NASCAR, the motorsport of the hillbillies. Don't worry folks the world hasn't lost anyone of any importance.

It dident stop the tire. hearing at least 6 injured, 2 critical, and a possible fatality. They have closed EVERYTHING at the track, including the campgrounds telling everyone to leave. Campers being told likely no Daytonta 500 tomorrow.

There will be, force the campers to leave and then state the race is back on tomorrow. Forcing them to pay extra.

the only thing that is more boring than nascar is golf.

Medics 'working' on people many minutes after the crash indicates people dead and/or VERY seriously injured. Those who walk away don't usually sit about.

Hey now, I've been to daytona before. Only sat that close to the fence once, wouldn't do it again, but to say it's no loss if someone sitting there died is just offensive and ignorant.
