Questions about a very tiny pregnant cat

Because cord blood is very high in clotting factors. I have just held a cord pinched together for about 45 seconds and it clots for small Yorkies. But cats are very private and protective and she will not want your hand on her babies so don't touch unless there is excessive bleeding or one is stuck.

And don't shake or sling the kittens to clear their airways as some suggest! If one if not breathing, hold it head slanted down on it's belly and rub with warm bath cloth and it will start to breath if it's going to. The most would be one of those little suction bulb syringes that are used on babies' noses.

Practice putting her in her box and tell her to put the kittens in there. You'd be surprised at how they eventually get the idea.

Both of mine were...but Kalika is so tiny...I got Batman first. Thought he was gonna be tiny to...but nope normal sized cat. The only thing with Batman is that he can be like the cat from hell seriously. When it comes to anyone he does not know or any animal he does not know. He flips out. I have never seen a cat get like that before him. I can't even go near him myself when he is like that. So yeah hes an odd one in that respect lol

I know I plan to wear gloves if I need to help out in anyway. I got a whole bunch of those doctors gloves.

The link that was provided from an ac on this thread...said the same thing about the warm washcloth and the suction syringe. I still have one from when my son was younger so that's good.

I have tried time and time again to put her in that box for days now. She goes in comes right back out. She follows me everywhere...right now she is behind me laying on the rug. I can't even go to the bathroom without here meowing to get in to me. So...I think she will go into labor with me around her. Just a feeling I got.

So now she has only eaten twice today and is drinking...but sleeping tons. Unless I move lol

I wonder if olive oil might be a better lubricant? At least it's edible. I use it on my hens when they're egg bound.

I got that in the house...I always have olive oil. hmmm...like you said its edible if I have to intervene and pull one of the kittens out...

Most cats are naturally good moms and instinct takes over, some are dumber than dirt and will let their babies die...but this is rare, thankfully.

If they are normal, they'll usually be OK and not need any help from you. But if you get a dumbass, be prepared to possibly have to pull the birth sac off and trim the cord. Leave it very long, it will dry up and fall off later on.

Watch that she doesn't freak and take off running mid-birth - close any escape routes ahead of time. I've delivered dozens of litters, usually goes fine.

freak out with the baby still attached? oh dear lord. Okay I plan to keep her in one room. If I can while she delivers...I think she will do it upstairs away from the dog...crossing fingers. Awesome advice thank you Cat Man :)

My cats always liked the closet as their birthing center. Keep your closet door open and lay some towels or other soft things she can "nest" in with the kitties. She will try to move them if there too much attention paid to them.

oh good idea...damn time to break out all the bad towels I can find. You have to see my house. I got blankets on my sectional. Blankets covering my comforter...blankets covering my lazy boy chair. Now I will have towels too...lol

I had a pregnant feral cat loose in our house when she gave birth early in the morning. We ran downstairs to find a baby still in its sac and she ran off. I had to get the kitten out of the sac and then get him breathing and then get slightly mauled grabbing the mom cat and putting her in a carrier. Fun stuff.

If the kittens have trouble nursing (if they have trouble "latching on" to the nipple) warm some of the kitten milk you bought and using an eyedropper, put a drop or two right on the nipple. The kittens will find it and try to suck it up....they should eventually latch on.

Also, you really don't need to intervene. Just realize that the cat WILL scream when the kitten comes out. Don't let it freak you out.

And finally, the mom will eat the placenta and chew the cord. You don't have to do anything in most cases. Remember, the placenta has nutrients that the mother needs....she usually does this in between deliveries. They each take time to come out, they don't come out one right after the other.

I've never tied anything off either.Usually the mom knows what to do but sometimes if she is really young she may need help.All of my momma cats wanted me there.I once tried to leave while my cat was giving birth and she got up to follow me with a baby hanging out.I never tried to leave again after that.And yes I'm the cat lady.

Pointless to use floss or thread or think you have to "tie off" the umbilical cord. DON'T DO THAT. MOM MIGHT SWALLOW THE FLOSS OR THREAD.
The mother kitty chews it off just like a dr. cuts human cords..AND she might even eat the placenta.

Please don't interfere with her while she's laboring. She needs your tender soft reassurance words and strokes, and will be grateful to have that from you.
Just be sure she has some fresh water and can step out and have a break for a cigarette.


Show her a soft little nest in a closet box or pile of clean towels out of sight. Or under your bed and show her.
You're her mommy you know.
Just don't upset her by shrieking while she's in labor..that isn't at all helpful.

Small as she is you'd be surprised she'll either have just two or so.

oh wow...yes I didn't realize the cat might flip out with the baby still attached...I am prepared for anything...except C section if that might have to happen. I will a way though if it comes to that.

Okay so when I first posted this her temp was 100.8 now today it's 100.1? I don't think I can really go by the temps or maybe my digital is messed up.

Well the update is she is now leaking fluid looks like her period. She is not panting but breathing very heavy. Any day now? I hope...maybe tonight...I am still keeping a watch...but since she is now at this stage and constantly licking down there she is close.

Probably tonight if there's stuff going on in that region.

I can't go anywhere without her following me...I just know she will do with me around. I have been lugging this box upstairs with me downstairs lol. I think she's getting the hint about the box...but she likes the blankets better... go figure. I will just keep doing what I am doing with the box lol

Well thank you for the advice like I stated earlier in this thread I DO NOT plan to intervene unless there are problems. I got blankets covering everything and towels covering the bottom of all closets just in case....plus the damn box lol

oh I hope so Loophole...yes and she is not eating at all either...I read on that link the ac provided on this thread that the leaking and licking can start like 3 days before delivery. I mean I thought she was super close when I first posted this I don't know honey lol but I am excited...not so much worried anymore.
