Upstate NY. Adirondacks. But been vacationing since the 80s. Used live in NJ in the 80s, 90s to 2003. You can really see the changes here in the last decade alone. Let me ask you? Do you have any snow on the ground where you live? If not, stop bitching. Never seen such little snowpack in the last few years here.

well i never bitched about anything on this thread. I chimed in because I concur that winters are decreasingly significant. I live in socal where winter in the 90's started in november and ended mid february. In that timeframe we regularly experience days of heavy rainfall, and not-so-uncommonly, we even had significant hailstorms. We also seemed to have an el nino every winter back then. I have only heard of one in the past 5-6 years. But I don't need media reports to observe how less it rains and the shortness of its lifespan.

WOW!!! 00z GFS leaning closer and closer to the Euro. Similar agreement on track and placing of the heavy precip. Crushes Central VA with up to 3" of qpf! [link to mag.ncep.noaa.gov]

Here's the total snowfall. Crushes the Shenandoah Valley, including Charlottesville, Staunton, Harrisonburg with 2 feet of snow! Richmond gets 6-12" while places north between Richmond and DC get over a foot. [link to raleighwx.americanwx.com]

Yup it seems you get these big dumps of snow in certain areas out of nowhere and then it melts away now in a few days. I mean we still have snow on the ground up here all winter but a lot less. And seems to get going later and later each year.

Does the light green mean that North East Alabama may get a little snow or is that just rain? It looks like it dips low as far as the cold front or the blue line. We have had a few snow flurries today and yesterday, but nothing sticking. Would love to see a little snow before the heat & humidity sets in.

I think people are complaining about timing.

The snow is being produced by gigantic storms colliding right over the northeast.
2 feet of snow in 24 hours is harder to deal with than 2 feet of snow over over 72 hours.

The storms over the northeast have dumped tons of precipitation in short spans making clean up a brutal nightmare.

I think most would agree that the snow pack is down because of wild temp swings too.

Plus why Fridays and weekends?

Strong winds from the NW aided in producing this NW to SE oriented Lake Effect Snow band coming off lake Allatoona!!!! I picked up a dusting with some fairly high snowfall rates. Nope, not bragging. Just reality buddy. I truly wish we had the wood stove put in years ago. Not only for storms in case we lose power, but also for money we've saved already heating our house. Unreal the difference in cost, and it heats up the whole house, even areas that are not well insulated. It only took about 20 or so storms for us to finally put one in, lol. Enough was enough!

We have power outages here, burning wood makes sense, which is why I need to know when to start cutting and bringing it in.

Yes, it is still too uncertain. The Chesapeake Bay and Appalachian Mountains to our West make the weather around here very unpredictable. But, I am hoping for some snow!

I remember you walked out in the parking lot, and you couldn't see the tops of cars because there was another foot of snow on top of them.

Since then though, our region is set for a record "snow drought".
