This, yes you can generally get more help as a single parent, but I know a few couples in the town I live in that live WAY better than I do, and its sickening.

Actually, according the the above statistics. 39.8 percent are black, and 38.8 are white. So it is almost even.

I live in Hawaii and there are so many young Mothers that have kids that get food stamps, housing and medical even cash. They say the father is no where to be found but he sneaks and lives with them or they have there boyfriend living with them, and of course he doesnt work just lives free off the woman. Everyone of these people carry around their cell phones and smoke. A carton of cigarettes here are from$80 to $100. Makes me sick

I don't know what "goodies" these are. And yes, a single man CAN get foodstamps. Gender has nothing to do with anything. It's about your income and expenses.

I am on foodstamps and work part time for min wage. This was the only work I could find. I am a single mom but my ex can't find work so even if we were still married we would qualify. When he worked full time and I stayed at home, we still qualified. I didn't know that until years later though. All I get is EBT, wth is TANF and all these other things? I don't get Medicaid. My kids do but they don't use it. It's adults that tax the medical system.

I homeschooled last year and am considering homeschooling again. If I have to still be getting foodstamps to do that, I am still saving the taxpayers money because each public school student costs at least 5k a year. My foodstamps are nowhere near that amount per yr. I realize this is not the norm but at least some of us are making good use of our time unemployed/underemployed by investing in our kids.

I'd really suggest you go try and start a business, try being the operative word here, and I guarantee you'll be singing another tune in 6 months.

Makes you think, what happens when MANY in a state are depending on the government to feed, medicate and house people and then the government pulls all that aid? Who will support these people? Will they turn to crime to feed their family? Will they have babies and children on streets because they don't have a home to go to? Will their children drop out of school because they don't have a permanent location to register for school? Will they get sick and not be able to see a doctor so they die in the middle of the road somewhere? I'm scared for these people and to know that there are more people in trouble then working in my state makes me wonder how safe I am.

I have a relative that lives on the big island of Hawaii. She's been there for 2 years and wow - what she tells me is amazing - as to how poor the native Hawaiians are, yet they seem to always have food on hand and are basically a very tight-knit community. Nobody is going to starve or go without the basics unless you really screw up.

They must have permits to grow weed and every now and then the helicopters come out to check out the fields. The dental truck rolls into the remote places and you can get a tooth pulled for $25. Medical care is spotty and services charged depend on your income, if any.

Lots of hippies, Vietnam vets (some with machine gun nests on their front porches), you-name-it live there. The rich people, such as those from Hollywood and famous musicians, live in mansions on Maui for the most part. But Hawaii is the most expensive state to live in, Alaska is next, because of shipping costs.

Not sure what happened with the sugar and coffee plantations but except there have been enormous disruptions. And Hawaiians are not voters for the most part, and if they do, it's for the democrat party.

It's the tourist trade that keeps most Hawaiians employed in places such as Oahu, Maui, etc. But a lot of them have simply fallen off the radar, and again, they seem to be well fed and housed, if only a shack. The weather permits this type of housing. Can't say that for other states on the list.
