Anybody any idea what the other object in this image may be? The one to the left of the Earth just below the SUN? [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] Do you even read the answers given to you? What on Earth IS this object on Stereo Behind HI1?? Quoting: Just the facts! Spotted this yesterday morning as a bright rising object just below the number 13 at the bottom of the image... Yesterday 11:18 [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] Then it got bigger, early today 01:18 [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] Now it's HUGE!!!! [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] Could this be Comet Pan-Starrs perhaps? Yes, it is C/2011 L4 (Panstarrs). It will cross the FOV in a quite straight line from bottom to top and will leave the FOV March 16/17. . To the right; Earth (with large vertical flare) Quoting: Being * gnieB To the left; Mercury (with small VF) [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] Sheesh. Anybody any idea what the other object in this image may be? The one to the left of the Earth just below the SUN? [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] This is the same object from yesterday! Not as bright as today but moving on the same course, looks to be moving fast too?! [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] Uh oh! It looks to be on Stereo Ahead HI1 in this latest image too! (bottom left object with smaller companion?) Judging by the angles, I believe it could be headed straight for us? Can anyone confirm or allay this? [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] No. The comet should not at any time be in the FOV of STEREO Ahead HI1 according to JPL diagrams. So, we are now looking at TWO objects! One heading North the other East as seen in the images! The latest image now seems to show them on a possible collision course, although it's still too early to say for sure?! MuzzleBreak User ID: 17479498 United States 03/10/2013 02:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | On HI 1B, the sun is off screen to the left, Mercury is near it and moving left, Earth is to the right, not moving, and the comet is coming up from bottom of FOV. On HI 1A, the Earth is off screen to the left, the sun is off screen to the right, and Mercury appears moving in the direction of Earth (but will soon appear to reverse course). All other objects currently in view on HI 1A are stars.
