Quoting: Pathaka Things as they stand are like this. 1. No money or political willingness to pay for another Cyprus bailout in full, without concessions (esp. because this would set a dangerous precedent to Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland & the motherload of all, Spain and France). Τhat is exactly the problem. ESM and EFSF don;t have the money to rescue Cyprus. Originally discussion where made for a bailout package of 18 Bn Euros. With this desicion the amount drops to 10 Bn Euros. Now what does thsi say about Eurozone?? What if Italy needs help? What about Spain if she also asks for additional help?? The debt of Greece is a grain of rice compared to them. 3. If this happens, there is no other possibility but to break away from euro, go to new-Cyprus-pound and devalue. This devalue would be in the order or 40% to 50% AND WOULD TAKE IN EFFECT IMMEDIATELY TO ALL SAVINGS. Quoting: Pathaka Wrong!! Cyprus with its enormous amount of natural gas reserves can do a lot of things. If the decide to exit Eurozone then EU loses one great energy source and the enslavement in the energy sector to Russia continues. This will cost more to EU than Cyprus. In such a decision Cuprus gets bailed out from Russia the very next morning. The profits are enormous for them. Politicians took the short fall and tried to postpone the inevitable. This solves nothing though and does set an interesting game-theoretical dilemma for the savers of Portugal, Ireland, Spain and perhaps in due time for savers of Italy and France, the banking system of the latter, being totally insolvent as I type this. Quoting: Pathaka So, it's more kicking the can down the road. 10% is still child's play. Ask any an Argentinian old enough to remember :) Politicians in Cyprus made a huge mistake. This forced haircaut without warning will destroy the credability to the Cyprus Banking System and a lot of investors and companies are going to flee and never come back. If this decision gets aproved by the PM's then Cyprus will lose all its allies and all the agreements that Cyprus has made up until know will be lost. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23227784 The scariest thing is the precedent this has set. Does anyone seriously believe that, now they have done this to Cyprus, they will not do it each and every time more intervention is needed in other countries? And that each time the percentages stolen will increase? Enough is enough; it is time for civil war. The governments across Europe have been shown to be crooks and no longer hold any validity or mandate. All Europeans need to arm themselves, take to the streets, and depose the governments of all parties. I just pray to god that the majority of Europe's police and armed forces see the light and side with the people. There IS going to be a bloodbath; lets just hope it is quick and not as bad as it may be. The funny thing is when I was screaming doom at Greeks to get their act together (pay taxes, stop rioting, stop bit**ing) & hoping that they will somehow vote in or make change in their country (both the large and small Greek nations) many Greeks accused me of being Turkish or Muslim but I suppose the silver lining here is that they can finally "see" what the rest of us see in that their government are complete criminal scum who have been sucking up willingly to the Eurocats for so long and this plan is nothing but plain highway robbery designed only to bring misery and hardship. Instead of a united Europe working together to solve problems we now face a project wide meltdown and breakup with future generations having nothing but intolerance and blind nationalism to look forward to :( |

Gazprom already handed over a proposal to the goverment of Cyprus that they are willing to buy 1-2 banks in exchange for more royalties in the Natural Gas Reserves. I mean none of the bankers have to worry about the Greek Cypriots as much as the Russians they almost screwed. |
