Label it "cashless" all you want, the end result is the same so long as the value of your savings is denominated in a 1st world currency. |

Yes but at least in the cash society you have the money in your pocket and you can choose to put it all there if you want. I'm sure after this is over the vast majority of Cypriots will indeed do that. Imagine the time they steal all or some of your money and you don't even have that option. You'll have to bend over and take it again and again without end. |

Everybody just walking around with little plastic swipe cards. The government could just bust the people any time they want. Take half your money or all your money, then do it again next week. They could starve you as an individual, or the entire population into submission in just a couple of weeks. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 36403026 Any time you don't like the new law they just passed and you get the idea you want to protest, well, they just starve you a few days until you're begging for enough of your own fucking money to buy a loaf of bread. Just imagine how popular you would be if the government froze the accounts of everyone in the country until your little protest out front of the capitol building ceased. They wouldn't need the cops to go in dressed in riot gear to bust your heads, your fellow citizens would do it for them. And they would do it more brutally and completely than any low IQ psycho fucking pig they could hire for the job. It's true that a cashless society would reduce street crime, drug dealing, prostitution and a whole host of social ills. But if you give up your cash, they have you nailed to the wall then, literally at their mercy. That's the hole point... Tag us like cattle. Then treat us like one. There's a LOT of control freaks in Government that's for sure. |

You'll have to bend over and take it again and again without end. Devaluation of the "dollar" in your pocket has been the norm for 30 years running. Any one of a million different policy's or or executive orders could completely wipe you out in a weeks time. I don't think you get it. A cashless society is exactly the same as a cash society, by today's standards. "Money in your pocket" is and will always be represented by your physical assets, not how many paper "bills" are in your wallet. For instance. You raise the subject of hookers. Sure in a plastic society you can't just whip out your wallet to pay, but do you think a good hooker is going to turn their back on a gold ring? A diamond? A car? Anything of value? Cash =/= Plastic |
