Is this to watch for any sign that an EMP burst missile will be launched towards the US West Coast?

According to the video games and movies, the EMP is hidden in a North Korean Weather Satellite. They launched one on December 12th, 2012.

You need to follow the script more closely.

If the Nork's hit Guam, it will be from a Sub or Boat at close range, not an ICBM.

There is no way they would use a missile to target America if they actually wanted it to arrive.

When it starts, they will launch a massive artillery barrage from their big guns, that are mostly underground. 60 years build-up of shells will totally trash the US bases near the DMZ, and Seoul.

Nothing can stop that many projectiles!

At the same time it would be suicide.

Is like N.K. is waiting for everyone to take place IF they have in mind to actually make a war with any country. Otherwise, why the pause?

Of course, the US fully intends to bait them into war. The jongs getting ill was the best thing to happen for TPTB.

Re: US Navy moving hi-tech radar platform off coast of Korea
It shows the US authorities want an early warning of any Nork launch.

If there is a launch, the USA will now probably just nuke them, no messing about.

Nothin' to stop lil' Kim creating a shower of Aluminium foil near the radars, though eh?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15941760

people keep saying we will just nuke them. Less everyone forgets about the thousands of US soldiers and all of South Korea we are suppose to protect.

We will not use nukes, maybe tactical but not the big boys.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34283198

More than likely there would be no ground level nuke detonations. We would probably only use nuclear tipped bunker busters. The same ones we developed for Israel to use on hardened targets inside Iran.

De-escalation chances are slim. They want to put an end to his nuclear activities before he makes even more progress which will make neutralizing the NK threat even more difficult if not impossible.

One thing is for sure, if war were to break out between North and South again, with Seoul being in range of scuds and other long range artillery, it will be turned to dust, no matter how fast the US reacts.

"North Korea has an estimated reserve of 155 million tons (12 million barrels) in offshore oil fields in its Western sea area, a south Korean monthly magazine reported.

"North Korea has five oil deposit zones in the Western sea, 150 km off the Nampo seashore, South Pyongan Province," it said.

The monthly Shin Dong-A quoted a Korean-American expert as saying, "It has five zones in the area; 65 million tons in the first zone, 50 million tons in the second zone, 30 million tons in the third zone, a small amount of oil in the fourth zone, and 10 million tons in the fifth zone."

In its December issue, Shin Dong-A interviews Dr. Pak (tentative name), who earned his Ph.D in nuclear physics at MIT, on condition of anonymity, revealed that north Korea is giving priority to developing the field in the third zone (30 million-ton class).

"You will find five offshore rigs in the area. The north Koreans have its own oil rigs. I estimate that if we develop this area, the north Koreans will have a capacity to produce oil on its own," Dr. Pak said.

Regarding the investment cost for the DPRK's oil development, he pointed out that more than US$ 200 million will be needed from a model (preliminary) investment to equipment investment. At first, it will take US$ 50 million for a model investment, he added.

It will take five years to complete related facilities after the start of the model investment."

South Korea Eye's North Korea's Oil

"Experts only can guess about the oil reserves in the Seohan Bay area. The North maintains that up to tens of billions of barrels of oil are being held there, much more than the 5 billion barrels buried in Indonesia, which has the largest oil reserve in Asia. It is presumed that oil fields found at Bohai Bay have about 5-6 billion barrels of oil.

Oh Jeong-gyu, an official of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, expressed doubts about the figure suggested by the North, saying that the exact size of the oil fields will be known once they can be explored using satellites or by actually investigating and drilling on site.

It is not yet clear whether the South will be able to participate in the development of the Seohan Bay oil fields. The North appears to be burdened by the South’s interest in the joint development project. For this reason, the South and the North were not able to have in-depth discussions on the issue during the second summit, according to some sources. Another problem is due to the fact that the western marine areas off Seohan Bay and the northwestern side of the mouth of the Yalu River are under the sovereignty of China. Moreover, China and the North signed a treaty in December 2005 to jointly develop oil fields in these waters. Were the South and the North to officially launch a oil field development project, it could cause diplomatic problems with China."
