personally, I don't live in such an area.

My parents house was broken into and lots taken when my dad went out for 15 minutes.

My sister had a would-be intruder ripping out the power lines to her house. The electricity interuption triggered the backup generator, and the noise of that scared off the intruders.

They had just finished trashing her neighbors' house before they tried it on hers. Excrement all over, stuff taken. These were not nice guys.

Ironically both my mom and my sister live in really nice areas. Neither one will consider a gun.
I live more rural, but with neighbors who would shoot first and ask your name later.

No I haven't ever killed anyone...yet. I feel confident that if someone entered my home without permission in the middle of the night that I could fire my 12 gauge into the crack/methhead's center of mass at least 9 times (that's how many 00 buck shells are in it).

Sure I would feel bad that I took another human's life, but I would have no problem justifying it to myself by knowing that he/she was in my home in the middle of the night to do me and my family harm. In this case, I look at it as kill or be killed. I have absolutely NO problem with that.

Are you really that naive? Home Invasions happen in the BEST of neighborhoods, where do you think the criminals go to hit the jackpot? I would put money on the idea that you'd be less likely to have a home invasion in the hood, way less likely than say a normal suburban middle class neighborhood.

That's not to say you'd be SAFER in the hood, just safer from HOME INVASION lol don't take that wrong.

OP you are a patriot and I agree with you 99% of the time.

But IMEO, this video is just plain wrong and I am afraid may harm someone.

The main reason a home security system is effective is because it disorients the intruder. Aside from the fact that it alerts the homeowner; and most alert the police. A intruder not stopped by the first two reasons has to know he has only minutes to accomplish his goal.

A Burglar ISN'T going to shatter a window if they think someone is home. They want YOUR STUFF so they can fence it and buy more crack. A home security alarm or car alarm will make most of these bad guys flee immediately.

BUT,
A person who shatters your window at night is coming in to harm you and your family.

This is why you keep your HD firearm loaded and in Condition 1. I personally use a Lifejacket to hold my XD and it is within reach without me even leaving the bed.
I keep the key around my neck. And in 3 seconds I am ready to defend my family.

But back to my point... a person smashing a window or door to gain entry to your home isn't going to care about a car alarm going off in your garage or on the street.

Also, having activated a annoying noise maker, you now have killed your ability to KNOW where the attacker is.

I know opinions are like assholes....
But I've been trained quite a bit by very knowledgeable firearm instructors, including extensive training in home defense, night time handgun combat, etc...

Besides, shouldn't your dog be ripping the guys throat out way before you are even out of bed?

More power to you. You have the right to keep you and your family safe...I have a gun and would use it if needed. However, it would be last resort if possible.

The best way to scare a burglar is to run naked down the hallway, laughing like a psychopath and yelling "meat!"

I would agree with most of you, but if you watched it to the end you would notice I said to store your SPARE keys with your gun. You get two benefits, first, you never lose your spare set of keys, second, you have your gun.

It also depends on the neighborhood you live in. In my neighborhood a car alarm blaring in the middle of the night WILL cause a neighbor to call the police. It may not work in some situations. If you live in a city, good luck.

The main point is that you really do not want to end up shooting someone if you don't have to. At best it is going to get you a night in the police station. At worst it will get you on trial for manslaughter. I know everyone likes to act all macho but you don't want the baggage of killing someone. You have to be prettyhardened to kill someone and not have it affect you.

Lastly, if it gets to the point of having to use a firearm, of course, do it. This is not the ONLY means of defense against a home invader. It comes from a study of thousands of criminals behaviors. MOST will be stunned at worst or flee at the ANYTHING that might get them caught. There are, however, hardened criminals driven by addictions or just plain nastiness that will continue about their business only to be stopped with a piece of lead in the brain pan.

I wanted to answer you directly because you made so many points. First, although I feel every citizen should have a gun, half? don't. Most don't have home alarm systems. They need any advantage they can get. Second, as I said at the end of the video, keep the spare set of keys with the gun. I have children so I have to keep the guns locked up in a gunvault. In three seconds I also can have both my gun and "alarm" ready. Lastly, I would never advocate NOT using a gun in lieu of using an alarm.

I am putting together a much larger version of this video, a series actually, on making a defensive strategy plan. I ran across this in my research. As I said in many of my videos, life is a set of probabilities. Nothing is 100%, any advantage you can give yourself is one you take away from your adversaries.

Or your car is not close enough for the panic button to work...

Or...........

Cell phone.

Then use your gun. Or test the theory first.

You can always default to pissing on your attacker or telling them you are in the middle of your monthly visitor as well. You can always leave a pile of gold right outside the front door as well, so they don't have to break in.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. There are many ways to thwart an attacker, this is just one...and a decent one at that.

No, this method is truly useless. One can hear car alarms going off every single ten minutes in America unless you live out in the country. There is NO other way to fight off criminal intruders other than showing them you have equal or greater firepower. Otherwise, the man of the house will end up being overpowered, robbed, tied up then likely to have to watch the criminals raping your wife, or daughter right in front of you.

Are you REALLY going to trust not having a firearm?

If you would have watched the video you would note that I said to store your spare set of keys with your gun, ideally. Ideally you don't want to kill someone unless you have to, if you can scare them off then you win. If you can't scare them off, shoot them.

IF you live alone, but USED TO have another in a second bedroom, my procedure is to yell out " Dave, you use the shotgun and I'll use my pistol. Get them in a crossfire !"

For the 'cat burglar', HAVE your pistol within arms length AND your door locked ! That way, you WILL have those extra seconds, when he finds the door locked and rattles/twists the knob.
