Yinse (OP) User ID: 36264732 Canada 05/22/2013 02:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | But its the firs thing i tried doing, 6 months ago when it stoped working i tried it again the day after, the day after, the day after then i put it away for a month, reformated, tried again, again and again and again Not to mention i have to reset the router everyday anyways for my moms shitty ass laptop to connect SO MY FRIEND that is NOT the case! i'm here to debate, not argue |
Yinse (OP) User ID: 36264732 Canada 05/22/2013 02:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yeah go to run > type "cmd" then when you get to the command prompt type "ipconfig" should tell you if you're able to connect to your router. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 39202048 i know i'm able to somewhat connect though, it can kind of load webpages but not really, it can't connect long enough to download or update anything when i'm downloading it will start at like 2mb a second for 1 second then jump down to 0.2kb/s then just give me a error i'm here to debate, not argue |

Taz User ID: 40025630 United States 05/22/2013 02:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | u know OP for shits and giggles take the router out of the equation. Plug your computer into the modem directly and reboot it (or release / renew IP address) this will do two things. one - 'ipconfig' will tell you your IP that you want two - you will eliminate it from being part of the problem |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1561325 United States 05/22/2013 02:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ... Quoting: Limey 15623572 Could try looking at the software.first. It could be that your PC is running Internet eplorer 9 I bet, it's a huge fail and freezes, especially with flash player as an add on. Upgrade to Internet explorer 10 and disable flash add on for Internet explorer. If all else fails uninstall Internet explorer altogether and just use Firefox. Or as you mentioned the hardware... Could be wrongly configured router. Try a factory reset on your router incase it updated its firmware and messed up. Also check any connections you may hsve, worst case buy a pci modem and plug it into your motherboard and connect to your router via that. Good luck. all my other PC's and WIFI devices in the house WORK FLAWLESSLY!! its noting to do with my router, unless the computer somehow saves all the corrupt information threw MULTIPLE reformat which again i think isn't possible, so i'm going with hardware If it's not your router or switch etc...it could be your NIC...perhaps bad drivers or a misconfiguration of the firewall on the router. Some data on certain websites travels through ports other than 80.... There are a lot of angles to take with the issues you've described. Chip, I agree it's likely the nic which the OP says is built into the motherboard. A secondary nic card would solve the problem if that's it. Firewall on the router is probably not the issue, since it works fine for other computers on the same network. Almost all data for websites is running through port 80 unless you're logging into a secure server, https, which I believe is port 443. ^^ my thought after reading OP. Spend $20 on a PCI-E NIC. Problem likely solved. One component on a motherboard can go out and not affect the other components. I've bought around 7 different motherboards for my own personal use at one time or another since '99. Only had issues with 2 of them - in both cases the on-board NIC went tits up while the rest of the components worked fine. "The computer guy down the streets says its probably something to do with my network card, but i'm pretty sure it's built into my motherboard and my motherboard still works fine" Srsly, OP, listen to yourself. The NIC on the board is connected directly to the southbridge (or even northbridge on some newer INtel chipsets) just like an add-on card would be once it's installed into a bridge slot. If an add-on card fails, does it cause everything it's connected to to fail? |

Yinse (OP) User ID: 36264732 Canada 05/22/2013 02:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i would think spyware / adware from the description and not hardware at all. Quoting: Taz OP why dont you try this : go to a command prompt "CMD" from the search at the bottom of start menu type the following : ping -t www.google.ca You will see ping replies from google and they will never stop because you gave it a -t look for dropped connections. (holes in the replies) let it run a min or two. If you don't see dropped replies its not your network gear. I would look at possible infections adware / malware etc * spybot search and destroy * malware bytes * avast / or AVG (free Anti-virus) * CleanUP - good clean up util BUT BE ADVISED it erases forum fill data and recent search history / URL history all temporary files go byby / my two cents you have 'multiple pc's' Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37913378 borrow a network card from one of them and see what happens... if they weren't all built into the motherboard that would be a great idea sir i'm here to debate, not argue |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 32695139 United States 05/22/2013 03:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It sounds like your port 80 is getting worn out. Sometimes after a few months of use a network card will need to be replaced because the ports wear out. If things work fine on port 443 or port 8080, but not on port 80, then I'd recommend getting out the network card, and cleaning it. You can actually put it in the dishwasher, but don't use soap. Let it dry completely, then see if that helps. Don't buy any of the port reconditioning fluid that the tech people recommend, becuase that never works for me. Its best to just replace the card. Sometimes I found that the cable can be worn out too. It actually looses enough electrons to not function any more. Sometimes it can be recharged by plugging both ends into different wall sockets, but you have to take them apart and it can be a mess to put it back together. So probably its better to buy a new cable too. But don't buy the recharge kit that they try to sell you. Hope this helps. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 39202048 Netherlands 05/22/2013 03:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It might be a duplex mismatch, since you network card does seem to work. Right-click your network card > properties > configure > advanced tab and look for "speed and duplex"...if it's set for "auto negotiation" (if not, try that one) try setting it to half or full...just try different settings. |
Yinse (OP) User ID: 36264732 Canada 05/22/2013 03:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | the motherbord is a BUS for all components so if others work fine others can still have died.
