Since ISON is so small, what's the big deal? | |
More questions than answers! User ID: 47075847 United Kingdom 09/22/2013 10:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ISON is at least 50,000Km in diameter! Where's the evidence? Well there are many threads here that talk about it and then there's NASA and all the other professional astronomers here in the UK that won't talk about it?! I've written to several large circulation newspapers myself about ISON and it's impending pass of Mars but with no interest shown by any of them including the Daily Mail and the Guardian!! My information, for which I do need independent confirmation, seems to indicate that when ISON appears in our backyard it will be the size of Saturn if not bigger! Thread: How BIG will ISON look in the sky at it's closest approach to Earth? Take a L@@K and see!!! |

I just can't shake this feeling that there's not much point in doing anything anymore. I have always followed my intution and it has always led me correctly before, but now I'm confused - it's like all it says is "wait". |

Then again - there are those images that show it's got "wings" or is in 3 pieces - so, yes, there are things we are not being told. Doom on! |

It's the coma of the comet that's 50,000km across, not the comet itself. The coma is a diffuse cloud of gas that won't affect anything. |

Thread: How BIG will ISON look in the sky at it's closest approach to Earth? Take a L@@K and see!!! In my original data it appeared that this WAS indeed the size of the coma! Then it was noted that it's brightness wasn't increasing as much as it should be, therefore indicating that my initial statement was incorrect as it must have a solid core of at least 50,000km diameter. Recent images from Belgium however now place its overall size at around 40 arc minutes, making ISON approximately 120,000km in size! As I have said, this data must be proved independently of NASA or the Lemming Master and all channels that I have tried in order to obtain such verification have proved fruitless so far! I am currently in contact with a FRAS professional astronomer but he is reluctant to talk about ISON?! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 46970256 United Kingdom 09/22/2013 11:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i just had a thought about ison what IF it breaks up, just prior to perihelion? Say into a hundred, or so pieces. Every single one of them will have less mass than the intact comet, so will be far more affected by the sun's gravity, and will be whipped around the sun at a far tighter angle than the intact comet would. correct? Now, in mid December it is flying directly over the earth, at a distance of 39 million miles, on the way back out of the solar system, BUT, if this hypothetical break up were to occur, could smaller but still devastating chunks be slung shot around the sun directly into our orbit? if so, then surely the chances of impact would shorten dramatically? I know it's an unlikely scenario, but is it POSSIBLE, in anyone's opinion? |

It's possible it could break up, even likely but the pieces would continue on the same path as the original body, of that I'm sure! I would be more concerned with what it's pushing ahead of it, as current meteor activity is increasing rapidly! Observe everything, trust no one and always follow the money!
