Re: >>>EBOLA 2014-15 >> Latest News and Updates for MERS, Ebola and other spreading nasties<<<
Ebola is a very virulent haemorrhagic fever, and is actually TOO virulent and deadly to be of great concern.... ALL people who catch it, get extremely ill very quickly (before the contagious stage) and end up too incapacitated by the fever to spread the virus (which is spread by contact with the blood and sweat of the victim). Because it is so deadly and incapacitating, it also tends to burn itself out very quickly.... In order for a virus to be easily spread, it actually has to be quite mild and less incapacitating (the direct opposite of Ebola).... There are other haemorrhagic fevers that are less deadly than Ebola, and more easily spread, if you really insist on getting hysterical about viruses.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37289132

no one is getting hysterical merely observing , if the cases where in a rural setting no problem but it's not it's a giant slum

Just make sure to have NIOSH N95 masks and eye goggles, very important if you will be near the virus or any suspected contagion.

Now suddenly the CDC is involved, after making several statements making it clear they WEREN'T involved, and that the WHO was running the show...

Deadly Ebola disease in Nigeria. (possibly)

[link to thenews-chronicle.com]

(snip)
There have been reports of an outbreak of Ebola hemorrhagic fever in Nassarawa State.

The Nigerian government, however, to prevent a panic has said that disease spreading in Nassarawa is not Ebola fever, rather its Dengue fever, a cousin of the deadly Ebola virus.

Nigeria is denying it.

I have yet to confirm this as well, if anyone finds out more info please post here and we'll update our chart.

As mentioned several times in this thread, we are not in panic mode, but we are watching this with our eyes to see how this epidemic plays out.

This is what I posted several pages back--

Always has been about money. Sadly.
I've been on this thread since it started. For some reason my ip address always changes. But, I hope that I have contributed well as I posted articles and warnings, etc.

I am now going pro active and researched for the best appropriate and affordable mask. Here is what the CDC has listed-
NIOSH-approved N95 respirators
[link to www.cdc.gov]

And this is what I am buying today;
3M 1860 N95 RESPIRATOR AND SURGICAL MASK/BIRD FLU
$18.89/ 20 PACK
[link to www.amazon.com]

This also showed up while searching for antibiotics;
NutriBiotic - DefensePlus

[link to www.amazon.com]

It is not a true antibiotic, and might not help with Ebola, but they may help with dysentery, cholera, etc. Should things progress that far. Also find some Amoxicillin- go to a farm supply/ feed store.

Hello all, I have now officially joined glp. No longer will my posts have random ip addresses [I hope], and we can continue to have meaningful discussions with my no longer being an AC.

you need to come into phyiscal contact with a sick person to catch it..

Sounds pretty easy to avoid if you ask me.

Just stock up the bunker and hunker down for a few months.
 Quoting: ThesonofhendriX

Nope. You can catch it from surfaces touched by infected people. Whilst it is certainly easier to avoid catching than an airborne flu-type virus, it isn't easy to avoid, especially if you live in an urban area.

Think about it:
- Public transport
- Shopping
- Money
- Elevators
- Shared computers, phones, ATMs etc. Especially touchscreen things
- Traffic crossing buttons
- Public lavatories
- Swimming pools, changing areas etc.
- Crowds of people with sneezes and coughs

So, yeah, you can take precautions, but if this bad boy gets embedded in highly populated areas then it will be very difficult to stop short of shutting everything down completely.

As far as I understand it the reason that Ebola hasn't been a particular problem thus far is simply that it was, luckily, until now confined to very poor rural areas in Africa, where people mainly travel on foot (or at least very slowly - crappy roads, lack of efficient public transport, lack of private cars). This, coupled with the fact that it is so deadly that it can burn itself out quickly unless it can spread rapidly. I remember hearing several times experts say that if Ebola every made it to the big cities, and more affluent areas - especially to people who travel by air - that we would have a major global problem on our hands.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 53990064

Sneezes and Coughs????

Correct me if im wrong but Ebola is NOT an airborne virus.

Yes or No?
 Quoting: ThesonofhendriX

You are confused. An airborne virus can spread just by people breathing. Ebola spreads through bodily fluids, so yes, it can spread through droplets during coughing and sneezing.

^^^THIS^^^

There is a lot of misconception about how Ebola can and can't be transmitted, I even saw one lady say you could kiss an infected victim without getting infected...you don't want to try that at home.

This virus can live outside the host for 1-10 days depending on conditions, so yes, anything bodily fluids land on from a sneeze or a cough could be contaminated with live transmissible virus.

AND it only takes an exposure of 10 or so live virus to contract the disease.

When a family dies from Ebola, they burn down their house for a reason...

Ebola outbreak: race to find 400 ‘carriers’

(snip)
DOCTORS and health officials are racing to track down almost 400 people who could be spreading one of the world’s deadliest contagious diseases, as the number of confirmed cases across three West African countries rose to 127 yesterday.

Tarik Jasarevic, a spokesman for the World Health Organisation in Guinea, which has borne the brunt of containing the outbreak, said they were trying to trace at least 375 people thought to have had close contact with patients.

That is a lot of potential cases that could pop up if true.

Liberia reports suspected Ebola outbreak

Monrovia - Liberia said on Thursday it was dealing with its first suspected Ebola case thought to be unconnected to the epidemic raging in Guinea and to have originated separately within its borders.

If confirmed, the case in the eastern town of Tapeta would mark a worrying development in the fight against Ebola, as cases so far have been attributed to people returning with the infection from neighbouring Guinea, where 84 people have died.

I'd like to know what happened to the Husband of the Woman isolated in Liberia...the one they didn't isolate, but instead had to call the CDC in Atlanta on?!?!?

Now suddenly the CDC is involved, after making several statements making it clear they WEREN'T involved, and that the WHO was running the show...
 Quoting: Saddletramp

We should be asking ourselves, why is the CDC, which is a National Organization, with an admitted international reach, changing their involvement level all of the sudden unless the husband of the Liberian woman DID in fact come to America after being exposed?!?!?

There's only two explanations for the CDC's sudden change of heart in this, either the outbreak is Bad as Fuck! or, there is in fact an American connection now...
 Quoting: Saddletramp

So any one care to offer insight or theory as to why all of the sudden the CDC has changed direction and become involved in this outbreak?!?!?

I'm gonna go with Bad as Fuck, the next few days will be very interesting, so far every other country that has people with some kind of fever are denying that they have any cases of EHF these include Canada, Nigeria, Mali, and Senegal

That shit is gonna blow up in Conakry, no way they can contain it in that chaotic unsanitary shit hole. Not if radio Conakry was right and there are 40 cases already.

That crap will spread like the Black Death did through Europe...

You have to understand, even in the Uganda Ebola outbreak, the highest Ebola death toll on record, most of the infections and deaths happened even after aid workers instructed people on decontamination, and even after the initial cases were isolated...

The CDC is always involved. They are notified of every odd virus discovered anywhere in the world. It's not bad as fuck or heading to America (yet). They've just decided now is the time to step in and be involved - probably some BS scale of how many fatalities are needed before they show up.
