Bundy's had the rights to it. Feds GAVE themselves "rights" and power over it ex post facto.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23077546

do they have the legal right to do that? something like eminent domain?

What do you believe? Is this ok with you? Do you understand tyranny?

i believe we live in a nation of laws. if the law states that the feds can do that legally then they are "right". if people dont like the laws, they can change them. also, the ranchers should have educated themselves regarding the laws and taken steps to prevent this. even if that means relocating to a place that would not have this type of issue.

again, i really dont think i like either side on this one.

First they mutilate the cattle, then they steal them, then they arrest your boy, now they want to exterminate the rancher. Tough times as a cowboy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2537192

I think the cops were very easy on them. It could have been a lot worse. I only wish the real story was out there before choosing sides
 Quoting: MONSTER

In the 1600's, etc, Kings, Queens, Czars took over the land and claimed it as their own. When starving peasants would use it or kill meat to eat from that land, the peasant could be killed or thrown in prison. We look back on this and realize it was wrong. The King was sitting in his palace and the peasant should have been able to use the thousands upon thousands of acres that the "government" claimed was their own.

One of the principles that America was founded on was that this greed on the part of government was wrong (in addition to other things like religion, etc.)

Of course, the government has certain points that seem right; believe it or not, there were people who sided with the Kings and Queens and Czars during those earlier times because the common people were taught that the land belonged to the King, Queen, Czar, etc.

This is part of the fight. I think the government is wrong and greedy and I think it is about Power and Control. Why should that land not be used--who gave it to the government? Why is it theirs any more than the people who live next to it. We are supposed to be the government--instead things are divided and now one group wants the rest of us to be serfs while they gain control.

so, its not even their land? its public land? so, how do they expect to use public land forever? not understanding where there claim is.. just because you have used something and put money into something doesnt make it yours. the $300,000-$1,000,000 in unpaid fees isnt good either.

i really hope no violence comes from either side of this mess. a big group of morons, on both sides of this one.

also, i have no sympathy for people who use animals as a product. not that the government would have any better plans for them. again, both sides suck on this one.

I just pray that you let me on

Matthew 6:9-13
King James Version (KJV)

9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

this is a "preemptive rights" issue.

The Preemption Act of 1841 => "appropriate the proceeds of the sales of public lands... and to grant 'pre-emption rights' to individuals" who were already living on federal lands

Thus Bundy had "pre-emption rights" and Clark County could not have purchased the land for $375,000 and then immediately closed it to "protect" the "Desert Tortoise."

That family was there before BLM was started. They spent their own money, not tax payers money, to create roads, bridges, improved the land, etc. That was the whole purpose of the Preemption Act.

Can you name a place they could relocate too? of course consider any federal agencies, including ones that are not created yet, that may effect them later.

There are some who keep saying that the guy should just give up and sell the property--that he is being silly' but, the point is that what happens when a person does not WANT to sell their family property. The government makes it look good--"here is our treaty with you." But, why do we have to sell and give up rights in order to live. Who gives the government (Mafia) the right to "make an offer we can't refuse?"

Yes, his life would have been easier and better if he had just done what they wanted him to do. That is true.

But the way the government is handling now is showing the real motivation. It is the motivation that was behind forcing Native American's off their land. It was the same motivation that allowed Kings and Czars to kill peasants for land. It is the same motivation that makes bullies take lunch money.

Sometime, somebody has to tell the bully they won't comply. It is easier to hand over the lunch money, but eventually you lose you soul if you never learn to stand up.

Do your links support that? Do you happen to have a link that isn't .gov, or could you copy and paste a portion so I can follow what you're getting at?

Last question, if you're saying it's fracking related, are the lands in this link involved?

Irreverent? It is a big deal or don't you think unnecessary censorship is a serious problem? Do you know what the Feds are doing now? They are tearing out all the watering stations on the BLM. These watering stations have been there since the first ranchers started using the scrub desert for grazing. They planted miles of pipe to water everything. The wild critters use that water and it helps the growth of plants all around the areas. The water ties the ranchers to the rights to graze. The real travesty is the theft of the water ... it is a big problem in these rights of us all, and especially where there is not enough.
The Feds have totally killed the San Joaquin Valley in Calif now ... so the fruit we have had from there is no more. Now they are stealing the watering stations and pipelines out of the desert grazing lands.
Obama has just arrived.
