A stranger will only do so much. They wont freely spend their life's saving on a parent even though you know she only has so long. At one point I was spending over $10,000 a month so she would be comfortable in an assisted living place. That included buying all her furniture and I kept on paying the ladies that were seeing her (meals and cleaning but mostly sitting with her) for years so she would always have those familiar "friends" with her. She needed all that. Tell me kindly strangers do that. In the mean time the system scammed all around me, high and low, and those people look at me like a fool and laugh. I guess that I'm just a dope. |

Nikola Tesla User ID: 61053943 United States 01/29/2015 11:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Welfare Recipients Freak Out When They’re Told They Have To Work For It Quoting: Ag47 [link to rightwingnews.com] [...] From Mad World News: It’s the end of the road for over 6,000 childless, able-bodied residents who have enjoyed regular free food on the taxpayer dollar. The Maine Department of Health and Human Services just told them it’s time to get up and do something to earn their keep or go hungry. According to the Portland Press Herald, Maine’s Republican governor, Paul LePage, announced Wednesday that the state will now impose a work requirement on welfare recipients without dependents, which must be fulfilled in order to receive food stamps. All adults without a disability must have to actually work for food, volunteer twenty hours per week, or enroll in an employment training program if they want to ensure their EBT card (Electronic Benefits Transfer) is loaded each month. People under the age of 18 and over 50 are excluded from that law. [...] I think it is a good idea for people to do something to receive their EBT funds. I think it destroys the human soul to become dependent on a free handout each month. It isn't healthy. Just my opinion.... If you are 'working' for a benefit does that mean the government counts you as "employed"? Who gets to use that labor? The government? Chosen private companies, or all companies? Assuming that you are 'employed' by a private company, doesn't that mean the Tax payer is effectively 100% subsidizing those employees? If so, is it fair that a private company gets to profit from the Tax payer when no exchange of goods or services occurs with said Tax payers? |

Why does the state get to set a price on their labour? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67408985 Why do the working citizens of the state owe them free food and housing? Things are running so efficient now that we do not have to think like people did 100 years ago when it comes to work.. Cannot wait for the day your all replaced by bots. Finally someone gets it. For those who don't understand, how is it that technology has continued to increase efficiency exponentially, yet we still need to work 40 hours per week to get by. At what point is a 30 or 20 hour work week enough? The answer is never, because the corporations will just reap the benefits of increasing efficiency, and the rest of us will continue to scrape by. This is the reason for the widening gap of the rich and poor. Some people can't comprehend this concept, and believe that you have to work full time or else you are lazy. Why don't we strive for a efficiency to allow us to have a 20 hour work week, so that we can spend our other time reading, learning, drinking with friends, traveling, etc. Wouldn't that be some kind of golden age? But no, you must work 40 hours, and if you question why then you're ungrateful for you're job and you're lazy. I call BS |

We read alot of 'propoganda' about how life is so much better, products like LCD TVs are much cheaper etc. But to me these are not tangible, useful indicators of improvement in quality of life. I BETTER indicator, for example, is that the retirement age for EVERYONE drops. Of course, as you pointed out, that is never going to happen. The whole system is a giant SLAVE labor CON that is perpetuated by cradle-to-grave indoctrination, control, and fear. |

If people can get by on 20 hours per week, that's great, but there is no need to be on welfare then is there? I'm all for being efficient, and self sufficient as individuals and as a society so we can spend time learning, laughing, exploring and creating. But that's not as profitable for those pulling the strings of the world. |
