Since animals act instintively and they do it, it is my opinion it is a natural function.

If the semen is not periodically renewed it becomes stale, increasing the chances of genetically inferior or defective offspring. If you're trying to have a baby with your woman and you have sex only during ovulation, the chances are the semen will be mostly dead.
