I agree, it's why mostly golfers so far, cant see their being many if at all in a stadium but outside events yes, esp nr water etc.

There are a few reasons for cancelling. I would too.

First one is its just too dangerous in that whole area. People that are already there have been robbed

A bridge for pedestrians collapsed. It was just built. The construction crews are doing shitty hurried jobs

They don't have adequate sewage system. Tooooo many people will clog it up fast

Basically a policed state

Antibiotic-resistant super bacteria in the water where athletes will compete

Besides chance of getting robbed the legit sales will have prices so high due to them being bankrupt

Rio was a terrible selection, but we know everything is planned. Is this whole location scare to bring relevancy to the zika virus to pump up sales for the vaccine? Now that's a legit theory.

It's a stupid idea for 3rd world countries to hold these events in the first place.

Billions wasted on stadiums,security, athletes apartments to be sold off to the rich on the cheap and unnecessary infrastructure to serve an out of city Olympic Park that could have been spent on sewers and public transport for the whole city.

Like most everything, the "olympics" aint what it used to be. No heart, no passion and controversy around every corner.

And there sure will never be any "Bruce Jenner's" any more, he/she is one of a kind.

Zika virus scare is just a convenient way to avoid the shithole that the Olympics will be held in this year.

It's absolutely criminal they're holding it where Bill Gates and his crew released this virus.

I work in Television production as a technical director and will be going to RIO for the olympics. NBC has been upfront for a year with its employees and contractors about any potential health concerns and has made it clear that anyone that is not 100% ok with going doesn't have to.

On the other hand, no one I know in my industry that works in television has opted out. I'm not saying that this virus doesn't deserve to be watched, but when you look back at history it's no different than Bird Flu, SARs, Ebola, etc. Lots of hype. Just be smart about your travels and your fine. Having been there before, I think the bigger issue in RIO is the crime that runs rampant through the city. My crew always moves in groups no less than 4 and always watching our backs.

I've worked international many times in my television career. This will be no different. I think the sad thing about Olympic Games is how a city builds venues that later go to waste or more money has to be spent on re-purposing them for practical use later. Sporting events such as this are global economic systems that are hard to stop.
