So are you asking to have Christian prayer in your schools? Youve already got it. You have every right to how your head and speak in your heart to your God anytime you want.

Or are you asking to have someone lead you in "prayer" like a sermon but addeessed to God? Muslim students dont get sermons or religious instruction in public school.

When Christians try to have school prayer they mean to have it in the classroom or on the sports arena. If you dont fit in you stand out. In our Western society it is considered ill mannered not to how your head and remain quiet while someone else prays. This means other students who do not pray are forced by good manbners to take a prayer break.

Muslims are not asking to pray in the classroom or to compel polite bon Muslims to observe their prayers. Rhey want to go to a special room and do their ritual prayer, alone. They are doing as Jesus advised, going off away from others to pray quietly in seclusion together.

While the Muslims pray, nothing prevents Christians from sitting together and praying silently together, or praying the rosary. They have identical rights to pray as Muslims.

I happen to believe the Muslim prayer room will be divisive among students. It will create division among Muslim students. I hope the Muslim community is mature enough to handle it well. Consider a school in which Christians are a minority. Catholics pray one way, Lutherans another. Some raise their hands and holler while others sit together in silence. Some will love to ostentatiously parade off to prayee while others prefer to keep their personal relationship with their God dignified and discrete. It will end in squabbles, unless that community is unified and tolerant.

There will be other issues. Some smart ass from the gifted class will find the weak limits to push. Adolescence is all about transgression and testing limits.

It will get silly, as religion always does in the post modern world.

NOTHING! They shipped more than our share of rapefugees into Texas just for this reason. Add to the mix more than our fair share of illegals and it's a mess.

When you have to pray 8 times a day in 6 hours of school like I did, before first preaching hour, before every class hour, and before lunch half hour, maybe you don't need a prayer room because it takes time out of your work schedule to do that.

Public schools are like pig farms, they take anything, like a battery cage of chickens. If you're a pious person/family, what you want to do is use your money to send your child to private school, and you can pray all day while your child thinks he's in a cult.

Anybody should use the faith room. I'd like to see them learn how to sacrifice a chicken for good grades. Maybe a goat, before finals.

It needs to be all or nothing. you can't allow one religion to pray and not another. I vote for none. There is plenty of time for students to pray before school or after school on their own time and their own property.

There's been soft-takeovers of "meditation" room and interfaith prayer rooms for some time now. Last summer, I visited a university in Canada that had a "meditation" room for students to have some quiet time. I went in to it and found that the floor was covered in prayer rugs and there was a sheet dividing the room into two sections (male and female). There was also a blackboard with Arabic writing on it, and a stack of korans. I didn't see any Bibles or books from other religions -- just korans. This is the soft-takeover that I'm talking about. They just take over, and either no-one notices, or no-one says anything (lest they be called "racists" and "islamophobes"), or no-one cares. Soft-takeover is what is happening now in most former Christian countries. It's very sad, but I'd say we had it coming. If we didn't, it wouldn't be happening.

This is correct. Accommodating ONLY muslim prayer violates the establishment clause. If you allow one you have to allow them all.
