Sure, many of the protesters think A is responsible, some think B, and some have no idea - as with any large collection of people.

You say that the whole system is rotten, and I agree. That's my view here in the States as well. I don't direct my anger towards George W. Bush, because I know he is only a puppet. It's virtually the same across the board; many Congressmen, Bernanke and co. in the Fed, etc. etc. have nothing to do, fundamentally, with the system. Even Dick Cheney is a puppet. A puppet with more "responsibility" is still only a puppet.

But if your attitude is the same *and* you believe that doing nothing about it is the only justified reaction, I strongly disagree.

However, any protest should be careful not to turn the advantage over to those they're protesting against, as clearly with controlled elements they may be able to turn the unrest against them via more force, more propaganda for the couch squatters, etc.

But you have to understand something here: protests are an endangered species. Whether they are put to good use or not, they are primarily an example of natural, healthy disappointment. There is nothing wrong with this behavior and there is everything right with displaying your dissatisfaction. Whether it works will be left to chance.

Do nothing, and nothing wins.

Someday, we may look back and wish we still had it in us to be upset with our masters.

And just to add something here, I don't think anybody with proven weight in their skull would suggest that a protest is going to change the public opinion overnight.

What a protest does best, however, is alert those who are not *thinking* about the issues in question, to consider assessing the situation. A demonstration is, in definition, merely a visible act.
