He writes, "They own the [holy] land, just the mere land, and that's all they do own; but it was our folks, our Jews and Christians, that made it holy, and so they haven't any business to be there defiling it. It's a shame and we ought not to stand it a minute. We ought to march against them and take it away from them." ----------------------- So you dispute anything I said before as being factual at all, without having to point out what I said was wrong.. Anonymous Coward User ID: 517558 Canada 04/05/2009 04:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I didn't bother to read all those pages, but I have to ask: Why do you feel that Israel is "your" land when you were born and raised in Europe? Judaism is a religion, just like Catholicism. Unless your family lineage stems directly from that region, why would you feel entitled to the land branded Israel? As an ex-Catholic, I never felt entitled to the lands Jesus roamed. Heck, 1/4 of my ancestry is Native American (Cree, to be specific), yet I don't feel entitled to the lands that were outright stolen from my family (and the land actually DID belong to the Natives, unlike the Jews and Israel). |

Z.Bankster Lap-Dog User ID: 648123 United States 04/05/2009 04:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As an European, I have followed, discussed, and ignored all the threads of last weeks that seemingly had just one purpose; to make Jews look bad. Quoting: RavanI am a Jew. An European Jew. Not by choice. But by birth. Not something I choose for. It happened to be so. Yes, I have been told all the stories, and are very familiar with the atrocities of the second world war. I think that I have less than half of the family you have. Although this is an every day reality for my parents, and therefore somehow for me, I don’t hold this against any of you that only learned what happened in the Nazi death camps from school books. You see, I don’t live in Israel ( my brother does), but I don’t. I do see Israel as ‘our’ land. Not because God promised it to us, but far more because it is our own land. Our space, not to be discussed, and if so, ours to defend. You, all, want the world, with your President, to become soft on Iran, soft on Hamas, soft on the PA, and strong on Israel. To what purpose? Israel is a democracy. Not perfect. But hey, what democracy is? But compare the Israeli an democracy with Hamas, the Palestinian Authority, Hezbollah, the neighboring Arabic nations and so fort, and you have to admit that Israel ain’t doing too bad. Make Israel soft, strengthen all that have less respect for freedom, equality between sexes, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of trade, freedom of how the world will end.. Why? Because you hate Jews? Why? The death of Israel will only be through God’s hands. Never by yours. silence is golden.... |

Every school, has a right to screen its students based on whatever criteria they agree upon -------------------------------------------------------- Had I made aliyah a few decades ago, things would have been different. In the early years of the State, there was systematic discrimination against Sephardic Jews and Sephardic culture. Though the Jews of the Land of Israel (who represent an unbroken presence ever since the return of the Babylonian exiles in the 6th century BCE) are Sephardic, the mass immigration of Jews to Israel at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century was primarily Ashkenazic. As a result, when Israel gained independence in 1948, the country’s power structure was in the hands of Ashkenazim. Western culture was considered the loftiest ideal, and Sephardim were considered primitive “orientals” whose traditions were heavily influenced by precisely those who wanted to destroy the new State of Israel. Thus, when the Sephardim arrived in huge numbers following independence, they were placed in transit camps (infamous for poor facilities, these camps also included Ashkenazic immigrants, but the Ashkenazim left the camps relatively quickly), their traditional culture was belittled (including the shearing of the forelocks of men and boys), and there are even stories of the kidnapping of Yemenite babies to give to childless veteran Israelis. ------------------------------------------------------ Those Sephardic families who resisted Israeli secularization and who sent their children to religious schools were met with discrimination there as well. I recently heard Jackie Levy, a journalist and popular storyteller, speak about how in his religious high school, though the students were overwhelmingly Sephardic, prayers were conducted using the Asheknazic rite. Jackie went so far as to joke that even if there had been only a single student at his school with one parent who had once visited Poland, that would have been enough to have all the students pray in the Ashkenazic tradition. ------------------------------------------------------ Ashley, Tuesday Sep 09, 2008 Avi #7 I can't talk for your friends, but there are others who do feel this way. Where did Shas and Tami emanate from, a vuccum? Why is there a need for groups like the Mizrahi Democratic Rainbow? Why are all the poorer neighborhoods and towns populated in the main by Sephardim if this is "old news"? You should have seen a show on TV here in Israel called 'Don't Call me Black!' which shows that discrimination against Sephardim is sadly alive and well. It may not look like that from NY but visit places like Kiryat Menahem in Jerusalem or Sderot and Netivot for another picture. --------------------------------------------------- I'm not saying the discrimination is not changing. For life is change. But just as the European Ashkenazim hated the Muslim and Christian Arabs, they had plenty of contempt for the Arab Jew also....Stop denying the truth. |
