In a move related to the lifting of the abortion rule, Obama also is expected to restore funding to the U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA), probably in the next budget. Both he and Clinton had pledged to reverse a Bush administration determination that assistance to the organization violated U.S. law.

The Bush administration had barred U.S. money from the fund, contending that its work in China supported a Chinese family planning policy of coercive abortion and involuntary sterilization. UNFPA has vehemently denied that it does.

Organizations that had pressed Obama to make the abortion-ban change were jubilant.

"Women's health has been severely impacted by the cutoff of assistance. President Obama's actions will help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, abortions and women dying from high-risk pregnancies because they don't have access to family planning," said Tod Preston, a spokesman for Population Action International, an advocacy group.

Anti-abortion groups criticized the move.

"President Obama not long ago told the American people that he would support policies to reduce abortions, but today he is effectively guaranteeing more abortions by funding groups that promote abortion as a method of population control," said Douglas Johnson, legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee.

Obama also is expected at some point to lift or ease restrictions on federal money for stem cell research, an issue that divides people along similar battle lines, but there was no word about any action on that Friday. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has expressed interest in pressing legislation on stem cells in the first 100 days of the new Congress if the new administration doesn't act.

Some scientists want broader use of embryonic stem cells than is currently allowed, hoping for new treatments for many diseases. Obtaining stem cells from four- or five-day-old embryos kills the embryos, and many opponents see that as taking life.

Richard J. Sullivan, Applied Digital Solutions' chairman and CEO, waxed eloquent about the market potential of Digital Angel, claiming the company has "uncovered a total marketplace that is conservatively estimated to exceed $70 billion."

Randy Geissler, chairman and CEO of Digital Angel.net Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary, zeroed in on potential applications.

"Our analysis shows that we are well-positioned to move quickly into certain applications while developing a number of others. Two areas of particular interest are in the healthcare arena," he said, "monitoring heart disease and respiratory disease patients." The tracking and monitoring of pets, he added, is also "right up our alley."

The demonstration, which was conducted by Dr. Peter Zhou and Dr. Keith Bolton, showed how Digital Angel "can be used to monitor a person's key body functions -- such as temperature and pulse -- and transmit that data wirelessly, on a real time basis, along with the accurate location of the person, to a web-enabled ground station or monitoring facility," according to a press statement.

The technology consists of a miniature sensor device, designed to be implanted just under the skin, that captures and wirelessly transmits the "wearer's" vital body-function data, such as body temperature or pulse, to an Internet-integrated ground station. In addition, the antenna receives information regarding the location of the individual from the GPS satellite. Both sets of data -- medical information and location -- are then wirelessly transmitted to the ground station and made available on Web-enabled desktop, laptop or wireless devices.

A more sophisticated version of microchip technologies currently used as electronic ID tags for pets, Digital Angel is powered electromechanically through muscle movement, or it can be activated by an outside monitoring facility.

As WorldNetDaily has reported, in addition to locating missing persons and monitoring physiological data, Digital Angel will be marketed as a means of verifying online consumer identity for the burgeoning e-commerce world.

In August, Sullivan told WND, "We are currently talking to a watch maker who is interested in placing the device on the back of their watches." He added that "technology is being developed that would allow Digital Angel to function from the back of a cellular phone, transmitting bio-sensor information when carried by the user."

And in an interview last March, the chief scientist, Zhou, told WorldNetDaily he believes the implant will be as popular as cell phones
and vaccines.

Digital Angel "will be a connection from yourself to the electronic world. It will be your guardian, protector. It will bring good things to you," said Zhou.

"We will be a hybrid of electronic intelligence and our own soul," he added.

"The Food and Drug administration has cleared the way for a chip to be placed under a persons skin to hold their medical records. The chip which is made by Applied Digital is called Verichip and is about the size of a grain of rice. This could one day help in assisting doctors as well as ambulance Paramedics in treating patient.

This approval came as a shock to some people in the RFID industry. In the past there has been RFID chips placed in cattle and pets but none ever done on humans in the United States.

The advocate groups are worried about privacy since these medical information could fall into the wrong hands. These chips have been rumored to be placed in humans in Mexico in the past but were unsure of that process. The Verichip would be placed in the triceps by using a syringe like device and they would be read using a hand held scanner either in the hospital or even in an ambulance. The chip sends out an electromatic transmission that holds a patients 16 digit identification number. The RFID hand held scanner would then read this information and would tell the doctor the patients medical history. This could save lives especially if the patient in unconscious and can not give medical and drug medication information to the doctor or the Ambulance paramedic.

There have been similar chips used around the world but for different purposes. There is over 1 million of these chips placed in pets and cattle worldwide. There is a exclusive club called the Baja Beach club in Barcelona and Rotterdam that has offered Verichip to their VIP's so they don't have to carry Identification or credit cards. The hot RFID rumor is that people like Paris Hilton have one, so do most celebrities. There is also believed to be over 1000 people in Mexico to have this chip also for medical reasons including the Mexican Attorney general Rafael Macedo.

Applied Digital stock went up a lot following the announcement of the F.D.A.'s approval. As well as shares of Digital Angel a subsidiary of Applied Digital that makes RFID tags for animals.

Just last week, VeriChip, based in Delray Beach, Fla., announced it had begun a two-year experiment showing the value of its VeriMed system (implanted chips, scanners, related software) in tracking records for patients in a nearby community center for up to 200 Alzheimer’s patients.

I was just watching the JFK assassination video. Believe it or not there once was a time when I used to just turn off and tune out whenever anyone mentioned "this JFK conspiracy nonsense."
