Quoting: Tuff~Kooky He is sticking halfway into the isle on purpose. People like this should either lose weight, pay for 2 seats, or don't fly at all. where do u get he is doing it on purpose? i dont think he would be on the flight unless he really had to, I mean look at how uncomfortable he must be. theres obviously something physically or psychologically wrong with him to be that big. as humans, we should have compassion for each other. |

Some people would really be in trouble if the government started charging an ugly tax or an idiot tax. And many in this thread would be toast if they started taxing a rude tax. |

Who said he had to? How do you know that? Nobody has to do this. If I was that fat I would not try to squeeze into one seat and have a picture taken of me just to prove a point. The guy does not care if he is obstructing the isle and making others miserable. He should purchase 2 seats and put the arm down between them so he can fit and not disrupt others on the flight. |

The picture, posted on an aviation blog, was reportedly taken by a flight attendant to illustrate to airline managers the difficulty of dealing with passengers who cannot fit into seats. It is unclear if the man was aware his picture was being taken or whether the flight, on US carrier American Airlines, took off with the passenger spilling out of his seat. Airlines already offer extended seatbelts to larger passengers to comply with safety rules but a number of carriers now insist obese customers buy an extra seat. They invade your personal space and make it to where you can barely move your own shoulders. God I loathe flying... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5672799 Men with broad shoulders and tall men are a gift from God. I would do my best to accommodate such a man on a flight or otherwise. |

Is that they are trying not to make a "fat seat." Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1315794 But of course is making them buy 2 seats any better? Make a couple fat seats. The airline charges a certain cost per seat. 2 seats could be turned into 1 fat seat. So a fat person should pay for 2 seats since they are using 2 seats. If they instead make "fat seats" and there are no fat people flying then the airline loses money. Fat people should not have to be accommodated by others, they should pay for their own extra weight. After all, they are already paying for it by buying so much food lol, seems like they can afford it anyway. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5671302 God...just end it already...ok? Indeed. Compassion costs nothing, but that is still obviously too high a price for some of the posters here. On a different note, given the increasing numbers of obese individuals, one would think that some enterprising airline would see the business opportunity in accommodating these people with respect. And for all of the finger pointers here, it seems you are happy to be relegated to the status of sardine. A person does not need to be obese to be uncomfortable in an economy seat. |

I'm far from it, but hell I don't even bother getting on a plane. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1132282 I'm nowhere near is big as you, but I find the seats too small. I'm not in the least fat and I fit easily between the armrests at seat level. But I'm muscular and broad shouldered and that also creates a problem. |
