Breaking News---Virginia Senate Passes Bill--Residents Cannot Be Forced To Purchase Insurance
[link to blog.tenthamendmentcenter.com]

Breaking: Today the Virginia State Senate passed Senate Bill 283 (SB283) by a vote of 23-17.

Provides that a resident of the Commonwealth shall not be required to obtain or maintain a policy of individual insurance coverage. This applies regardless of whether the person has or is eligible for health insurance coverage under any policy or program provided by or through his employer or a plan sponsored by the Commonwealth or the federal government. The measure also states that no provision of Title 38.2 renders a resident liable for any penalty, assessment, fee, or fine as a result his failure to procure or obtain health insurance coverage.

Also passed today is SB310 and SB417, both of which provide “that a resident of the Commonwealth shall not be required to obtain or maintain a policy of individual insurance coverage.”

Pending in the Virginia house is House Bill 10, which is a proposal for a similar law.

Goodbye, halcyon days...

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

Believe that as we may, Feds that want to arrest someone obeying state laws but not federal laws can do so.

(Don't know the sources, just from what I've read happening to people all over the country when it comes to the feds).

I totally agree with you, but with all of the stories we have been reading over the years, the constitution has been ignored. When it happens in reality, the Feds alway seem to win. I don't think that's right, but it's what's been happening!

I do celebrate the victory, though!!

Woo hoo!!
Congratulations Virginia. More states need to stand up to the Federal government like this. If enough do it, Washington DC would become irrelevant.
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

The 10th Amendment recognizes the dual-sovereignty that defines our country. By intentional design of our fore-fathers that wrote the Constitution, each State is exactly that - a sovereign entity that has certain governing powers over its constituents that the federal Govt., by Constitutional mandate, cannot interfere with.

Many states other than Va, have bills and will be voting on them in the near future. When Obamacare is signed and delivered I predict many states will sue and the portion of the bill mandating that a citizen purchase a product or be fined and go to jail will ultimately be decided by the Supreme Court that Obama just pissed off.

What irony.

Yes, I understand all that. I just hope it isn't a hollow victory.

ex:
Even though medical marijuana remains illegal under federal law, the Obama administration has told federal narcotics agents not to arrest users and providers of medical marijuana who are abiding by state laws.
Full story:
[link to www.syvnews.com]

Now, if it is okay per state law, why would Obama have to make such a statement?

....this is my whole point. Although, it is good for states to pass this to show their intention.

Congrats VA

Too bad they won't do anything like that here, may change after Nov, but doubtful.
