Did you see the Outer Limits episode that came out in the 90's where someone had cancer and was given an expiremental treatment of nano based machines that targeted the cancer cells and destroyed them? Well it worked and then because of the programming, or level of AI'AI ~ these nanobots searched for anything else in the body they seemed as a threat or weakness. Well one day while taking a bath the man went under water for a moment, BAM! The nano it's crested gills by reconstructing the molecular makeup of his body. Then later on in the episode these wonderful nanogoblins crested eyes in the back of his head so he could see what's behind him.
