Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20903842 Although both Francis of Assisi and Francis Xavier could have inspired the new pope in selecting his name for posterity, it was more likely the Italian friar who was the main inspiration, said Monsignor Raymond J. Kupke, a professor of church history at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. "He was a man of great simplicity, down to earth, a man of the people," Kupke said. Anonymous Coward User ID: 31263808 United States 03/13/2013 06:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is too much of a stretch, OP. Saint Francis is the namesake. His first name alone was chosen. As the pope did not select two names, he is only Francis. Also, Assisi is not Rome. You're making up too much. It doesn't work. But the Jesuit thing is a closer match. It is a way of having the euphemism of "black pope" actually apply. |

Were the Earth less harsh or the circumstances of life less austere, man would destroy himself before the shrine of the languid goddess. Only Real Men can with safety destroy the tangled forests and wilderness of Earth and make from them gardens, but will those who inherit the gardens be Real Men? The law decrees that they must be, or the wilderness will reclaim its own.” |
