There REALLY IS something strange in western sky around sunset...!!! | |
ok User ID: 44504012 United States 10/01/2013 02:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Can't see the rings with binocs. It appears open ended. The "planet" is @ the bottom, not in the middle like it would be with saturn. I have seen saturn through a real deal tele, and it looked about as big as this does with the much lower magnification binocs I'm using. Every article Iread said you CAN NOT SEE THE RINGS WITH BINOCS If it is so be it but for now inconclusive as to what it actually is...s Will definitely be back with updates and hopefully pics! Thanks again for the confirmations from all over the place! |
salty1 User ID: 32437161 United States 10/01/2013 02:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have been saying this for years. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47696794 but no one pays attention does it stay a bit longer in the sky now before it magically vanishes in mid air? It is usually gone by 11PM here. It is very bright at around sunset. The damn thing moves. It can't be a planet...I mean it moves around, not just "through" the sky like a star or planet would. One second it over here...the next it's over there, then it's back over here. I didn't believe it myself at first until I put a tree between me and it...the tip of the tree was right below it. It moved all over, and no, the wind was not blowing at all. Stand in one place and hold up two fingers...one on either side. It will move outside of your fingers to the right and left, and will move up and down in between your fingers. Just try it. And that damn blinking...red to green to white.... saltyone USMC 0341/0331 |

It looks just like that, except the orientation is vertical here in wisconsin... probably the same thing as in video, can't quite comprehend how the orientation is so different though. Laters! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 47719264 United States 10/01/2013 02:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Honestly Icould accept it as saturn but seems quite unlikely for the previous reasons: Quoting: ok 44504012 Can't see the rings with binocs. You know I did think Isaw movement @ times, hard to say when things are so low on the horizon... u can literally watch the sun/moon move when they are that low. Ha go figure the binoc with camera attachment is for an actual film roll/cam! Can u even buy that stuff anymore?! Do u have to have ur own dark room?! Kidding of course but that was definitely a bummer. Seeing what Ican line up for tomorrow but will definitely be observing it and will attempt photos with my digi cam. |
ok User ID: 44504012 United States 10/01/2013 05:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What else are you seeing fellow cheesetard??? Anyone else seeing abnormalities? (Would be weird almost if u weren't @ this point!) It definitely catches ur eye, usually its just a planet in some random spot and that.s why(you notice/seems odd, etc.) and Iam certainly willing to accept saturn @ some point, but not yet! Doesn't add up @ all... Doesn't seem vissable for long btw, all of 20-30 mins(not quite sure about duration) Heading to a sand hill for optimal observation this eve. Clouds are clearing! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 42417911 United States 10/01/2013 05:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is NOT venus(you can see that clearly to the left/higher) Quoting: ok 7875900 It is NOT mercury(can hardly be seen @ all, certainly doesn't have disc like appendage) You can not see anything unusual with eyes only, HOWEVER with a pair of binoculars you can see a round, reddish object as bright as Venus BUT with something CLEARLY protruding from it that is disc like but open ended. A sort of "V" shape to it... The left side appears to be more prominent. I've checked it out last two nights and can hardly believe my eyes. All articles I read state you can NOT see the rings of Saturn with just binocs; its too far for that. Plus the "V" shape part is larger then the object; it is vice versa with Saturn. I've seen saturn through a proper telescope and it was tiny, its rings even more so. Please if you are in usa/canada or other northern latitudes, check it out, near sunset WITH binocs @ least. I can't believe this but it looks just like the images of what niburu is supposed to look like, the winged disc!!! Craziest thing I've ever seen, right up there with hale bopp or green lightning or intense aurora action. I am sort of willing to believe it's Saturn due to local, appearance but doesn't seem possible @ all(way too much detail for such weak/generic binoculars! It doesn't even say the mag power on them.)!!! AND The rings are NOT open ended The rings are NOT more prominent then the planet/object Again it is NOT venus, observed it shorlty later/unmistakably. Mercury might of been the winged messanger but does NOT actually have wing/disc like appearance to it ever. Will attempt images tomorrow. OP, I have seen the same thing for the last couple of months. I have tried to photograph it but no matter how still I hold my camera, the object keeps moving all over the place. Not sure what it is but I see it every night in the western sky about an hour after sunset. I though maybe Saturn or Venus but not sure. It sure is bright though. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 47411650 Canada 10/01/2013 05:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've been seeing this for about one month now, around 8pm looking to the south-west. I thought it was Venus, everyone at work was wondering what it was. We concluded it was Venus, but boy is it ever bright, never seen it like that before. I'm in Southern Ontario Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13419725 Same here, except in Northern Ontario. Very bright indeed, again not mercury or venus. |

Don't think my digi will do much by itself but with the binocs Imight be able to get a decent pic, will by trying shortly. |

My boyfriend said it was venus but I've never seen it look like that before so I'm going to keep watching it. Looking at it gives me a weierd feeling. |

If I was looking directly towards the sun and treated where the sun meets the horizon like the center of a clock then the object is between 10 and 11. It certainly is bright because I can see it with the naked eye long before I can see any stars in the sky. Here's hoping someone knows how to take a proper picture and can share it. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2322105 Holy shit. I thought I was the only one who saw this. I am in Vancouver and saw the exact same thing low on the SW horizon about 3 nights ago. But then the clouds rolled in and I haven't been able to see the sky very well since then. At first I thought it was a plane because its position had it sitting right above the Vancouver airport from my vantage point, but it was reflecting the setting sun and was quite large and wasn't moving. I don't know about a tail, but I had to grab the binoculars to see it better and all I saw was a massive orange ball. And same as the Calgary poster, I saw it loooooong before the stars overhead were visible.
