In a nutshell - Someone explain this Rancher thing to me, please?

So because of a turtle free zone or some nonsense, the feds want to impose a tax? The rancher does not want to pay this tax, so they surround him with snipers? Then I guess some people feel like supporting the rancher and they're forced into a small area?

None of this makes any sense to me, am I missing something? Or do I have it all wrong?

All of us farmers who actually own land have to pay taxes on it to keep it, but this Bundy fucker has been using over a 1000 acres of Federal land for decades and not paying a dime.

Kick his freeloading ass out of there!

I'd rather see the public land return to a wild condition that let that self entitled fucker use it for free.

Government overreach using this..
Bureau of Land Management

Authorities are justifying the move by pointing out they are simply enforcing a 1993 rule change which prevents Bundy’s livestock from grazing on the land in order to protect the endangered desert tortoise.

Ok, but how has this escalated so much. Forgive my ignorance, but shouldn't this go through a court summons or some similar procedure as opposed to an armed stand off?

I don't understand how it's gotten to this point? Has the rancher threatened/done anything to deserve this kind of attention? To me from my limited understanding it seems as though the Bureau of Land Management is acting very aggressive(also, why would a land management dept. have snipers)...

And lastly, how much are they saying he owes for this charge?

Actually I am. I bought my land and I pay taxes on my land, and I'm not stupid enough to think that just because I have been using federal land, that it somehow becomes mine.

Maybe all farmers should go out and start pasturing federal lands and wait until the federal government tries to kick them off, and then go on a fucking national crybaby parade to get people to feel sorry for them.

Fuck Bundy, he's been using over a 1000 acres for decades for free. I don't feel a goddamn bit sorry for him.

Pretty good article on the situation.

The feds say he owes around $1 million. He stopped paying in 1993.

He and his family say he only owes $300,000. Even Cliven Bundy admits this has been going on for 20 years.

If you think most farmers defend Bundy, you're sadly mistaken.

When people like me and my farmer neighbors pay millions for land, and $200.+ to rent land, it doesn't make you feel a goddamn bit sorry for Bundy.

Thank you for the link, I'm not sure I agree with many aspects of it(1st amendment areas in particular). However, this is the most clearly presented thing I have read on it...

Thanks all for your help in understanding this.
