They want you to borrow more and more money digging yourself into a debt trap that can never be paid off. College is a complete SCAM! It isn't worth it! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13127957 What kindof jobs Exactly. If he's applying for CEO or Executive VP positions, then of course he's not going to get any hits. Fresh out of high school the best he can expect is an apprenticeship in one of the trades or the military. Burger King, McDonald's, etc. are ALWAYS hiring. Sure, it's not much, but it's also not a career. It may push him toward college too. The real world sucks at that age. I did it. I did it on purpose. And I'll do it again. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13127957 No JOBS are hiring!!! What he hell happens next? Welfare? Trade school in a blue collar skill. We need: HVAC technicians Cadd CNC machinists Auto and truck mechanic Air Craft mechanic Rail car operators Merchant Marines CDL certified truck drivers Plumbers Electricians etc, etc. Future jobs now hiring: Genetics lab technicians Robotics mechanics and technicians The sky is wide open for your son. Welding pays big bucks, if working for someone else. Plumbers, if they own their own business do very good. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 29523052 United States 05/21/2017 08:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How about certification training... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19007391 He can get Python and C++ training and certification online for free, both of which will make him instantly employable in the Google (they use Python) and all-computer world (tons of places use C++.) He could literally pull down over $100K per year just by getting these two certifications. If he has ANY imagination, he could use both of these to develop an ap that will make him disgustingly rich for decades to come. Just because he knows how to write the code...and most people don't. It is a brief, opportunistic window in which we currently live. He should grab it by the balls before it is too late, or he will spend his life framing houses in the shittiest of weather, until his arthritis makes him stop. Fucking sign him up for coding classes, and tell him to get the fuck out if he refuses. Umm, this ^^^ you stupid enabler. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 72072201 United States 05/21/2017 08:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks for asking your question here and I apologize for the sarcastic comments some people make, but here are my ideas, too. One of the best set-ups I've come across was this guy in the military. He went into the engineers.... I know he was building housing so he learned construction, plumbing, electrical... everything while getting paid. In addition other soldiers would call him up and he'd get extra $$ by using those skills to do repair/installation , etc. at those locations... THEN, when he discharged, he already had a customer base and went into business doing those things and is making a ton of money now. I have 7 years of college and it isn't for everyone, also, my parents could pay and I don't know how these young people today can pay off those loans.... and there should be no shame in not going to college. Technical school.... Some might be rip-offs but here in Texas, in Waco, there is TSTI Texas State Technical Institute.... I know of a number of guys who went there and are doing well now. I like the other person's idea about learning and using code... that's always in demand. Internships... he should be able to find one since he's right out of h.s. Does he have any interests/hobbies? Those are good directions to start. Maybe see a career counselor... I saw one which used the What Color is your Parachute book and, wow, what I really enjoy doing the most has NOTHING to do with a college degree, lol. Maybe a mentor... someone who will take them under their wing... but he has to search those out. "Create" a job... see where a business is not optimal, write a proposal and see if the company will give him a chance and if it goes well, hell often can get hired. SALESMAN - wow, you can make big big $$$ if you can do that well. For now, for summer, even mowing lawns.... keep him busy, make some cash, and will show initiative to employers. Oh, if no employment there, move to somewhere there is if that is a possibility. I hope I helped even just a little. IMO no matter what he needs to keep busy.... an idle mind.... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 72072201 United States 05/21/2017 08:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oh, I'll add this... I grew up in my father's construction supply company. In the hardware store one day it was pretty busy. Dad pulled me aside from what I was doing and said, "Son, look around the store and tell me who you think is the richest man here".... I don't know... I said, what about that man in the suit? Dad said, nope, see that man there with the dirt and mud over his clothes? He's a plumber. He makes over $250,000 a year. Oh, also, nursing... and in nursing homes... high turnover but a great way to get paid while doing some really good work for other people. Here in central Texas and now other locations, there is Schlitterbahn... they are always hiring young people for the summer. Fun job, make lots of friends, and be around the hottest looking babes. :) |
