Flash Flood in Libya on December 07 2018 05:04 AM (UTC).


Torrential rain has brought much of Libya's second city of Benghazi to a standstill, closing major roads and shutting its airport. Water flooded the passenger terminal and parts of the car park at Benina airport on Wednesday. Osama Alfargany, Benina Aiport's vice president, told Reuters news agency that "the water came all the way into the passenger halls, which was approximately one to one and a half metres high." ...

Please share your reports (temperature and precipitation-type) with us. At this point, I suspect most of you are getting rain, unless you're in parts of Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Some mixing may occur throughout the early afternoon in regions we expect heavy wintry precipitation to eventually fall. The transition will occur farther north first, and then continue to work its way southwestward tonight (and into the early morning hours in our most southwestward impact zones).

Don't be tempted to think this winter storm isn't going to occur just because it may be in the 40s and raining. This is supposed to happen. Everything is unfolding, as expected. If anything occurs outside of what we're expecting, I will not hesitate to let you know.

Based on the current observations and latest numerical guidance, here are our ice and snow accumulation maps from today through Tuesday. The numerical guidance has struggled with the strength and depth of the warm nose (which is what helps determine whether you see a cold rain or sleet/snow), so Matthew Holliday and I went with a blend of the guidance and compromised in the 2-4" zone. Any change in the strength of the warm nose could increase or decrease wintry precipitation amounts, or change the type of wintry precipitation your area experiences. Many areas will see rain transition to freezing rain, followed by a transition to sleet then snow.

Heavy rainfall hit Maldives, a tropical nation in the Indian Ocean composed of 26 ring-shaped atolls, flooding streets and homes of capital Male. According to the Maldives Meteorological Services, the capital island received 223.5 mm (8.79 inches) of rain between 08:00 and 20:00 LT on December 5, 2018, breaking the previous 24-hr record of 200 mm (7.87 inches) registered on December 11, 1998.


In just a few hours, the city received 149 mm (5.86 inches). The national 24-hr record is 228.4 mm (8.99 inches) registered on November 24, 2018, on the southernmost island of Gan. As reported by the Maldives Independent, the rains flooded many roads with up to 60 cm (2 feet) of water...

Hardly any snow here! Yippee!

Radar loop with storm reports last 4hrs. 8am-12pm. Pink icons - heavy snow report. Heavy snow in Richmond now. There are so many 10++ reports in Virginia and North Carolina. 11" in Raleigh. Impressive! (They are sleet now)

Volcano Activity in Costa Rica on December 10 2018 03:50 AM (UTC).

The constant eruptions of the Turrialba Volcano in Costa Rica that have been registered since yesterday and throughout the day today have caused ashfall to different parts of the Great Metropolitan Area.

The activity this Sunday, December 9, began since the early morning hours (1:15 a.m.) and again (6:52 a.m.) with a column of ash that reached over 800 meters above the crater, 4.140 meters above sea level (13579.2 ft) the eruptions have continued throughout the day. Coronado, Goicoechea, Moravia and several cities in Heredia have registered ash fall and the strong smell of sulfur.

Volcano Activity in Papua New Guinea on December 10 2018 03:53 AM (UTC).


In its December 9th update, the Rabaul Volcanological Observatory says apart from the recent eruptions, at other times the two summit craters have exhibited signs of an active system through occasional ash plumes, audible noises and glow. "This suggests the system is still dynamic and volatile and therefore the potential for further eruptive activity in the future is still high,"...

They said on the news that some places got a years worth of snow in one day! Interesting! I remember reading that tornadoes seem to be moving east in the US. Wonder if this is connected to a pole shift, or what exactly?
